So it's the 2nd or 3rd time this is happening to me and it gets kinda annoying.

Friday i saw this sale

https://www.gog.com/promo/20180219_weekly_sale

i bought the "Deluxe Edition Upgrade" , already owning the "Bombshell" game, but the "Bombshell Deluxe Edition" still appears on my "Not Owned" games.
Why is that? \

Same thing with Stasis a few months ago.
I acquired Stasis as a gift for $30+ purchases on a sale and got the Deluxe Upgrade eventually, but the STASIS Deluxe Edition still appears on the list.

Now this is annoying for 2 reasons.
A) Completionist reasons
B) I was so happy with the price that i forgot about having the game and almost bought the "Bombshell Deluxe Edition".

This must've been reported, right?
What do you mean "appears on my Not Owned" games? I don't think have one of those lists. No way to filter that in the Store either.

IIRC there have been requests for such a filter in the Store in the past, but so far the items are merely grayed out with the intent of not being noticeable. To me that makes them more noticeable because I can't easily tell what they are, so I look at them more closely.

What about the game pages themselves? Does it allow for adding those games to your shopping cart? If it allows it in the shopping cart, can you actually buy one? What about wishlist-ing it, does it allow that?

I would figure it wouldn't allow the purchase only because I think we can't buy more than one copy of anything. At least they would give a refund, probably regardless of 30 days since you would have essentially paid twice for the same game, if it allows for purchasing them.

Yes.

GOG shows a warning on checkout to help avoid this, something like "Please note: Bombshell Deluxe Edition includes Bombshell, which you already own. You will not get a second copy."

Yes. However, it's tied into GOG's core architecture (and perhaps licensing - game+upgrade and deluxe game might be completely different products for all we know), and a fix is not expected any time soon.

Not Owned games are only filtered when you have a sale page like the one i linked. On the upper part of the page you see all the games that you don't have, and the games on the bottom are the games you own.

As Starmaker said, they've tried to reduce the impact of this bug, with notifications and i guess you can also ask for a refund if something goes awfully bad.

In fact this is what it says when you try to purchase a game you already have

https://imgur.com/mUc2V3E

Guess it'd be more noticeable if you got it in red letters or sth.

Anyway, thank you both for your answers.
same thing happened to me recently during the last big sale, game comes up at a good price, I saw I didnt 'own' and added it to my cart to more or less bookmark it but before buying it I went to read reviews and some very helpful person stated that this upgraded deluxe version did not show if you had the other version owned, sure enough when I checked I already owned it. didnt care for the extras at all so thankfully was saved a duplicate buy. sry, cant remember the name of the game, but seriously this needs to be fixed. it is borderline shady

Doh! Of course, now I remember. If only I hadn't glossed over the part about the sales, and with a link… -_-

Yes, I think it would be annoying. I have bought separate parts, but as of yet not of games that also had a combined version.

what sucks even more, GOG actually detects this. i too own bombshell basic and deluxe update, and when i add the deluxe version to my cart and go to checkout, a small text is added above the product:

Please note that Bombshell AND Bombshell Digital Deluxe Edition Upgrade are included in Bombshell Digital Deluxe Edition but you already own these items, and will not receive another copy when you buy this pack.

so basically GOG detects i already own all there is in this pack, still allows me to buy and basically getting nothing for it except the "combined" entry in my library.
this is so f*cking bullshit, i cannot even....

//EDIT: and yes, the deluxe edition is shown as "unowned", which is the actual problem here.

I wish GOG automatically changed my Pillars of Eternity to the "all in one" version after I bought the expansion, but they didn't. No store really does that though, to my memory. I know I have bought DLC separately on Steam and Origin and had the same issue for games like Fallout New Vegas or Dragon Age Inquisition.
I also own Bombshell and Stasis + the upgrades, and I find it annoying not having the complete editions marked accordingly, but more so, I own Witcher 3 GOTY, but none of the basic Witcher 3 and DLCs are marked as owned.

Theoretically, even if product A and B are included in product C, product C could still have more content than A and B combined. In this case that probably isn't the case, but GOG only compares which products are included, not the actual content. C could be A+B+D, or it could be A+B, as well as have content not available in another product.

They should have a way of marking A+B and C as equal when they are, and it's annoying that they don't do so, but this is how it is.

So, yeah, GOG notifies you that you already have A and B, both of which which are included in C, but that does not necessarily mean that you have the entirety of C, and it's your choice whether or not to purchase it.

They do have a way because it works for some titles but not others. The problem is more likely "it's not a high priority" which seems to be their catch-all excuse these days for not fixing much if anything.

Oh, that's interesting. Care to give an example of a game where it does work?

It looks like the only parts which marked the whole as owned was Witcher 3 with the GOTY Edition. I thought there was another one in there but I seem to be mistaken or missed it.

All of the complete versions I bought marked the sub parts correctly except:
Fallen Enchantress Ultimate Edition
Pillars of Eternity: The White March - Expansion Pass (Does not mark Parts 1+2 as owned)
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt + Expansion Pass (as a single title)
===The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt NOT owned
===Game of the Year marked owned
===Hearts of Stone marked owned
===Blood and Wine marked owned
===The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Expansion Pass NOT owned

So I guess they have to make a special exception for it.
