MaxFulvus: Stay safe. Do you live in one of those quarantined regions ?
Thanks for the concern: I do not live in a quarantined region... for now. :-)
MaxFulvus: French news said that the infection has increased in Italy because there is less doctors in cities than in France so people go more often in hospital and there is much more aged people, more sensitive to the coronavirus. True ?
I'm not an expert, but I would say it's not true.
Aside for the first case which was surely an unintentional error, the outbreak is not due to people going to the hospital, but because of normal social interactions. Every hospital in the whole country has now a pre-triage location, where people is tested before being allowed to enter the building. So, no, the outbreak has not definitely been caused by an insufficient number of doctors.
That said, it is true that italian population is old on average and this could have an impact on the number of pneumonia cases generated by the virus. It's not easy to say if it is a critical point, though: even younger people could need intensive care treatments and, by the way, the whole european population has an average age not so different from the italian one.
