I have a suggestion. I don't know who maintains the list or if they'd want to do this, but perhaps including a simple column on what type of game each is? I.e. platformer, hog, pnc, strategy, etc. Given that there's so many games, and clicking each one takes a while to load and examine, it might make it easier for people to find games they might like if they could easily see what games are available for a particular category. They could sort the list by category, and look at all the action games, or rpgs, or whatever.

It would be extra effort to both do and maintain, but I thought it might help clear out some games.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that would be a ton more work for me, and frankly, there are a lot of games where the genre is debatable. Take Hellblade, for example. It's a narrative-driven game, but if I put it in the adventure category, it might not be what you're looking for because of all the combat. There are lots of puzzles, but if I put it in the puzzle category, it might not be what you're looking for because of all the combat. There's lots of combat, but if I put it in the action category, it might not be what you're looking for because it's so story heavy and has quite a few puzzles. I think the best course of action is to continue to let everyone go to the game's Steam store page and figure out for themselves what kind of game they think it is and if it would interest them.

I'd be willing to do this. I'd just need to know whenever new games were added. I've been thinking a similar thing myself. I would just use the tags Steam has.

If you'd like to do this on your own, you're more than welcome to do so. I can send you a PM whenever I release an update. The Steam tags sometimes give incorrect and/or conflicting information, though.

It'll take some time, but I've started working on it. I know I gloss over a lot of games not knowing what genre they are. I would take almost anything that was beat 'em up for example, but some of the titles don't help me know what type of games these are.

It's true the Steam tags are flawed, but it's the easiest way to get this done without having to actually play the games or watch gameplay videos.
Sorting games by genre might be a trick and can create some imbalance. The most popular genres will grabbed faster, than the less popular indie games. Maybe it good for main list, but works very bad for update lists. I think forum users should check all games (without unsorting) because they can might found something intersting in genres they not playing.

I just realized that this means that either I'm going to have to delete each game from yet another list each time a key is granted or people will be requesting games that are no longer available from an out-of-date list. I don't think this is going to work at all.

Or I could just save you the hassle and post it as my own version of the spreadsheet with the understanding that it isn't official, just a way to quickly find the genre. It'd still be nice to know when the lists are updated.

I think the opposite, really. There are games being skipped because they are obscure. Whereas the popular games are known and disappear off the list quickly. If there was a tags list, I think people would be more willing to give games a chance that have been sitting on there a while.

Since were on the topic of games not bring picked for being obscure, my good sir for this month of August for the 5 available daggered keys to request, a copy of the following games that have been sitting on list for a long time and have more than one copy:

Aegis Defenders
A Story About My Uncle
Dirt Rally
Whispering Willows
Galactic Civilizations II

would love to adopt this games, seems like no one requests for them, though ill keep my 3 non-daggered requests for now never know what would show up in the following days :)
