ProtonVPN free tier is the only free VPN I would trust to use. But which Polish ISP blocks discord?

BTW I just guess reason is concern about potential closing down general forum.

It's been brought to my attention that what triggers Discord forcing you to give it your phone number is connecting to it from an IP that dodgy individuals have used in the past. That could be one from your ISP or one from a VPN, so using a VPN might not get around it. Or it might. Either way, I strongly suggest setting up 2FA anyway, so you'd might as well give them your phone number. I gave them mine and I haven't received any more spam phone calls or text messages than I was before.

A big thank you to finkleroy, zeogold, moonshineshadow and IAmSinistar for keeping this wonderful GOG giveaway running for so long, donating so much of their free time to benefit the community here.
It is sad that the current iteration needs to leave GOG in order to keep going but not really surprising.

I don't use discord so won't be participating in this giveaway anymore but I may start up my own variation of it here on GOG sometime in the future when I am not so busy. It will be different to what has gone before but will hopefully encourage the community to come together in a positive sense.

Hmm. I don't know if I'm eligible or not (and this isn't a game request) but I just tried registering for Discord out of curiosity and I see the same "phone-wall" too, I have the same static IP in years and I live on my own having never had a Discord account. Perhaps dynamic IP issues is simply one of several triggers or perhaps Discord dislikes some web browser but not others or they simply changed the rules recently to make it compulsory for new accounts, but that people who registered before this simply haven't been affected? Some people even say "you now need to verify both email and phone, email is not enough".
My current plan is to close down this giveaway and change the Non-GOG giveaway on Discord to a giveaway that includes keys for all platforms, including GOG. If you're currently eligible for the giveaways, you're more than welcome to join us. Just message me and ask for an invite code. I'll be keeping this thread active until the transition is complete. Feel free to continue to request games until then.

moonshineshadow: Sad to see this happen after such a long time. Goodbye little giveaway now that you have grown up and are moving out ;-)

finkleroy: You're welcome to join us, if you'd like.
Thanks for the offer but no. I don't know your reasons, but I personally believe a gog community giveaway should be on gog and not some external place with invites.

You're in for a treat! 23 years later I still think it's pretty much the best game ever made (along with Thief Gold).

Definitely looking forward to it.

finkleroy: FOR VARIOUS REASONS, I'M MOVING BOTH GIVEAWAYS TO DISCORD. I'M BEGINNING THE PROCESS NOW. PLEASE MESSAGE ME TO GET AN INVITE CODE. PLEASE CONTINUE TO REQUEST GAMES ON THE GOG FORUM UNTIL I ANNOUNCE THAT THE TRANSITION PROCESS IS COMPLETE. I WOULD MUCH RATHER EXPLAIN WHY I'VE MADE THIS CHOICE ON DISCORD THAN GOG. PLEASE DO NOT ASK HERE. PLEASE SET YOUR DISCORD NAME TO YOUR CURRENT GOG NAME FOR THE DISCORD SERVER. YOU CAN SET IT TO WHATEVER YOU WANT FOR WHATEVER SERVER YOU WANT. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE ACCOMPLISHING THIS.
Thank you, finkleroy, for carrying the dual torch for so long. Good luck to y'all on Discord. I don't believe I'll be joining --- I don't use Discord or any other social application, and I am not inclined to begin now. Although I don't know the exact reasons for the move, I am not surprised. All the best.

I get that. That said, this giveaway will be no more, and the other giveaway will have GOG keys in it, so it won't be strictly a GOG giveaway. And it won't be a GOG community giveaway, either. Everyone who's a part of it will be from the GOG community originally, but it won't be for active members of the GOG community. I've already invited quite a few people, and we've been having a great time chatting for hours. The atmosphere is quite pleasant. I'll be sad to see this giveaway end, but this was definitely the right call.

I'd rather not talk about the reasons for the move in public, but anyone is free to message me and I'll tell you in private.
Isn't there any anternative that do not require personnal information?, it seems a lot of peoples can't use discord or don't want to (including me, i don't like to share any personnal information to website like discord)

I won't clutter the thread with too much more idle chatter, but...

... I tend to agree with Moonshineshadow on this... at least regarding "The Community Giveaway - GOG Edition Redux."

At a time when the community has already become fractured and a large number already have abandoned the forums, it just seems IMHO like a tough time to move off-site what many see as a driver of GOG traffic and a nexus for community engagement. But, I don't know all the particulars of what's going on here at GOG recently -- and can also understand wanting to move off-site -- so take this with a grain of salt.

As for Discord, I find more-and-more groups moving discussion to it, but unfortunately I don't Discord, so with that said...

... thank you to Finkleroy for the years of service to the community. Consistently running giveaways is not my idea of a fun time, but you've done it! And I have to confess that at the height of the "bad times" the last few years, the giveaways -- however little games actually mean in the grand scheme of things -- did mean a lot... a good thing to look forward to and pin a little hope on when things seemed bleak. Anyway, thank you Finkleroy. Your hard work and dedication are very much appreciated.
