So if you notice my avatar... Gothic and Gothic 2 were/are two of my all time favorite games for 20 years..... yet I just discovered this new DLC moments ago.

It shows up as free, I added it to my cart, and supposedly it was added to my library. But I don't understand if it's a stand alone game or is it "folded into" Gothic 2? It shows up as a separate download.... but it says on the store page that Gothic 2 gold edition is required. So do I install Gothic 2 and then this or do I just install his??

I'm so excited to play this..... but want to experience it was intended. If I have to start a new game of Gothic 2 I will or do I just install and play this alone?

And do any of you have any comments on how good this is? Reviews certainly looked promising.

EDIT: Link for anyone instested....

Just install and play. It has no English voiceovers but you can download the Polish ones.

Oh.... thank you. Yeah glad you told me that. I'm not interested in playing a game in another language even if subtitles are available in english. Also don't ever watch movies in another language with subtitles either.

Guess I'll either wait until an en english version is available or I won't get to enjoy this.

Thanks so much though for saving me the time of downloading and installing it.
It's standalone but only for Gothic 2 owners that's why it says it's required.

It's completely fan made, non-profit project and there won't be English voiceover from developers. However they're open to add fan made dubbing providing it will be high quality job (machine reading is out of question). I think Germans and possibly Russians are working on their respective languages but judging by Gothic popularity in English speaking countries and history of past modes I wouldn't count on it ever happening (on the other hand Archolos got much bigger coverage than any other mod so who knows).

I get the impression that the English version is text-only rather than English text with Polish voices. Surely you've played plenty of games that were text-only in your time? After all, voices weren't even an option until the advent of CD-ROM drives and soundblaster cards.
It's not a DLC, but a modification. There are many story-driven mods for Gothic 1 and 2, but only few of them have English versions.

Polish voice-over is optional. You can play either with or without voices.
Just an opportunistic question about Chronicles of Myrtana: The graphics? Does it look like the original Gothic 2 or they managed to improve the appereance. No problem if it looks like Gothic 2, anyway. Just being curious. Other modifications? To how weapons work?

That's my point - the OP needn't think of it as a foreign language with subtitles (something they say they don't like) when they can just think of it as a game with no voice acting (which is still fairly common to this day). Surely the OP must play some games without voice acting.

It's also compatible with Gothic 2 DirectX 11 mod (whether it makes game looks better or worse is matter of opinion).

Mostly like the original, old engine has its limitations. You might want to download pre-rendered HD videos, though.

Skill system and economy are changed and re-balanced. Core weapon mechanics and combat remain the same.
