My favourite passages in Dante's Inferno are the spiral ramps leading down to hell. That's where the interesting infos are exchanged and where deals are made. The dance-floors are too loud to conduct business. The private rooms in Hell are, well, private. So you only have planned meetings there. But on the ramps you can meet everyone and pick up on the gossip of all the levels of society in Seattle, from the lowest Shadows to the vaunted peak of the corporate food-chain.

I never read The Divine Comedy, but I'm pretty sure my father has it in his collection. So, I think I'll have to take the easy way in:

So, since there've been some entries, I'll wrap this up in a couple or hours (in case anyone is still on the fence ;) ).

Let me know if you'd like to change your status - can't speak for the rest of the forum, obviously, but personally I'm fine with it (and yes, I did read up on prior offenses, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt).
Also, wow, is that English class as in highschool? I thought we did some heavy reading back then, but this seems quite advanced. Then again, a bit of guidance probably helps a lot, rather than venturing forth without assistance ;)

I remember we had to read "Deutschland. Ein Wintermärchen" by Heinrich Heine (not sure how known this is outside of Germany, but it certainly is a favorite of German teacher's around here). I'm pretty sure if it hadn't been mandatory reading I'd never have read it - understanding the sociopolitical context is sort of necessary to make sense of it, and at least in school that was delivered on a silver platter...

Yep, AP (as in advanced placement) English 12. Our teacher read the first 20 cantos with us and helped us get into the habit of analyzing and interpreting the text, but now we are going to be reading it out of class. The version we are reading has footnotes that help out quite a deal by explaining most of the symbolism and historical context, so it isn't too bad.
