moobot83: gaming is going down the pan atm i wonder when its gonna crash, cos i can see one coming cos people will get sick of the delayed content in games, the micro transactions people can only take so much until they start doing something aobut it.

the exclusive thing wont last with epic and they only have fortnite to sustain them now all there other games are trash and not even worth playing, even most of there exclusives they have are shit.
Gaming is doing better than ever.

Sure, microtransactions suck, etc. No argument there. But they actually exist because the public is throwing SO MUCH money at the gaming industry. So, in addition to just cranking out games, the industry is also trying to figure out how to get more of that money. They tried cosmetic DLCs, and people threw money at them. They tried microtransactions, same. They tried lootboxes, same.

BUT! The industry is also churning out more high quality single player games than at any point in history.

So, I don't see the problem.

CMOT70: Journey has quietly slipped from "coming" to released today as well. I bought it- my first ever Epic purchase $4.99 with the Epic $10 discount. Hopefully they didn't mess up the port, I'm going to play it as soon as I'm done with what I'm currently playing.
How does the discount even work? Tom Clancy Wildlands is on sale for €14.99. According to their FAQ the discount also applies to games already on sale. But if I try to buy Wildlands, it's €14.99. Do I have to select a payment method before the discount becomes visible?

It looks like the sale has ended now. The Epic discount only applied during the time of the sale. I mean their overall Epic sale, Ubisoft are currently having their own sale I believe, which is separate.

How odd.. When I posted that question, the sale was still on their homepage. It's gone now. Oh well. Wallet stays closed. I would easily €30 for Wildlands on GOG, but I guess we're not getting it anytime soon.

My post was here.. It was on a new page.. And then, it vanished!?

Edit: great, first my post doesn't show up, now they're all here. On the forum index, this thread went to the top, so it did register my post. But the index reported this thread as having only 199 posts, so it did and it didn't register my post.

Looks like for some people uninstalling a game you get free removes it from your account. You have to purchase the game to get it back in your account.

The video is a bit sensationalist. People are experiencing a problem. Not clear how many. The company is responding to support tickets. Some of it seems to be user error. Some of it may be a bug.

Business as usual in the software field.

So the Ooblets developer has a bad case of FIM disease. First the condesendingly stupid annoucement on the website, now this.

And honest,y, I have to wonder if they're really going to make bank on this stupid decision.

Condescending, indeed. When I first read their initial post about this, it didn't come over all that well, but reading these image grabs from twitter really doesn't make me think very highly of the devs.

"We don't listen to our customers, and we're proud of it!"

Great business model, guy.

Guess the 'tude doesn't really matter since they already lost me at "client".
Why are devs even mentioning about being exclusive? Why did kickstarters specifically say steam instead of saying PC?

Their blog post on this issue is level headed.

I remember waaay back when I plopped the disc for Half Life 2 into my PC for the first time and was forced to install this new thing called Steam. It was a barely-functional mess back then, as anyone who used it from that time period can tell you. It’s had like 15 years to improve. If it wasn’t worthwhile to improve, it wouldn’t have been and you wouldn’t still be using it.
It's here many years later because it had all the exclusives people are complaining about.

“It’s anti-consumer to have exclusives”

This is the most common complaint about Epic, but I don’t think people have really thought it through.

I can understand the frustration of having to buy different consoles to play the games you want, but there’s no extra cost to use EGS. The store and launcher just require a free signup. It’s not like having to pay for HBO and Netflix and Hulu to watch all the shows you want, it’s more like just having to press a button on your remote to change between free TV channels.

It’s also really disappointing to see folks threatening to pirate a game just because they can’t get it on the game launcher they’re used to. Feeling like you’re owed the product of other people’s work on your terms or else you’ll steal it is the epitome of that word “entitlement” that people use to discuss immature, toxic gamers.
Console exclusives are good.

Spectre: Why did kickstarters specifically say steam instead of saying PC?
I don't know, but I am very grateful for that. I don't trust any Kickstarters to keep DRM-free as an option, so if they want to be up-front about their Scheme-lust, that is a good thing. No false hope, no wasting people's money.

In simple terms, I moderate for a massive game mod Discord and politely put, I've seen mods for games with better PR outreach. Sure, the creator of FrackinUniverse takes no guff, but he's also 40+, been working on the mod for 5+ years, is currently in university for game design, has a wife, child, and pets, and therefore, doesn't have time for the idiots who can't read the explanations.

Update on Ooblets!

Tim Sweeny himself responds in a matter which is less than positive.

(For the consumer, that is.)
