Linko90: A fouls a foul hasn't applied in a long time now, see any top tier match or league. Defenders are literally running out of options these days purely down to poor officials and constant pushes for players to dive (more often than not if they don't dive they don't get anything, even if it was a foul). Human factors are always gonna be there, VAR's just a tool, not the decision maker
wpegg: Once the referee invokes VAR it should be 100%. VAR was invoked, and it should give the fairest result possible. I don't subscribe to the "everyone fouls a bit" logic, it's just giving more room to players breaking the game. Right now we see shameless rugby tackles in the area because they are aware that even with VAR they are bulletproof. If the Russian player hadn't accidentally backfooted the goal,
that tackle would have been ignored, that's not football. Fouls and the dark arts have been apart of football since forever. It's never been a perfect game of rule-abiding
As for being bulletproof, i don't agree on that, most of the rugby tackle fouls are on the blind side of the officials. It's then up to the officials to use VAR to make a decision. Invoking VAR is allowing the ref to see a situation and the making a decision. The human factor is still involved, which includes mistake/interpretations. VAR was never going to be an instant fix
