Greetings to you, one and all! As many of you have seen around here, I am the constantly-jesting, pun-making, puzzle-addicted Puzzlemaster who joined about two weeks ago. Hi.
Now, I've been part of GOG for some 3 years or so, but I only just joined the forums because I clicked on the "community" button to see what the heck it was all about and saw a little place known as thetrading thread. Never before have I ever said a word on any forum of any sort, generally viewing them as hostile places for trolls, flame wars, and general political disagreements. However, this particular area caught my eye. After many purchases on Humble Bundle, I used to give away the Steam copies of the games to various friends of mine. However, they, having little time, eventually lost interest and took almost nothing when I'd post lists of 20 or so games. Therefore, I decided to come here and see if I could trade a few of the better ones. Sure enough, I did many a clean trade and earned many a nice game.
I met some people in the midst of these trades who I had fascinating conversations with, and as a person interested in other cultures, it was wonderful for me to be able to talk to somebody from the other side of the planet like that. Due to seeing not only their kindness, but their great generosity, I decided to take a look at the rest of the forums. Sure enough, they were all full of such nice, amusing, and amiable people. After some encouragement, I eventually worked up the courage to post even more.
Eventually, I came to enjoy the place, and decided that it's more fun than I ever could've imagined. People here give away stuff just for the heck of it, hold games (and puzzles!), talk about life, and are welcoming even to young (very young, comparably) newcomers like me. So, I've decided to stay, and as somebody who has a decent amount of time on his hands, I've been able to post fairly often, so who knows? Maybe I'll become more famed around this community than all of you people.
This post is to say thank you to all of you for making this site such a lovely place. Continue being a wonderful group of folks!
Heck with it, while I'm at it, I'd like to give special thanks to a few specific people:
Sergeyua for being one of the first people I encountered and demonstrated the honesty and generosity of the community.
Yatedigo for being another of the first I met and having a lovely conversation with me about his life, sharing his story and offering me wisdom.
Mikopotato for his impressive commitment to puzzles.
Shadowpatriarch for being a brother in the faith (he'll know what I mean).
Hypersomniaclive for helping me find my way around the community.
Wingsofrequiem for readily offering his tech ability.
Jdelekto for his feathery humor and encouragament.
Dubconquerer for opening up to me and sharing his story (and a neat puzzle!).
Klumpen0815 for his generosity and general amicability.
Sachys for being Sachys.
tinyE because, let's face it, he deserves a mention for no particular reason.
_Slaugh_ for his neat game (and another puzzle).
mrkgnao for being a fellow writer (and offering another, albiet screwballish, puzzle).
