It could be good, right? There's a potential for it to be?

johnnygoging: I marked.

I marked real hard.

Qapla!

btw did you guys hear about that bullshit where paramount is suing a bunch of guys that made a star trek fan film over copyright infringement because they claim they own the language?
Its a bit complicated. They sue based on stuff they think they can successfully sue. But the actual reason is that the Axanar ppl at one point claimed they used money from the Axanar crowd-funding to buid a (soundstage? studio hall?) not for that project but for future for-money projects. Also they sold Axanar merch which is in every way but name Star Trek merch.

As much as I would have loved to see the full Axanar fan movie after seeing the awesome prelude to Axanar (see it as long as its still up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1W1_8IV8uhA ) the studios are actually (which I think is extremely rare) even morally right to sue the "little one".

But since they used the infringements they used to sue it might end badly for all involved since this are things already done by hundreds of other fan-fictions.

Its not that they aim to stomp all professionally looking ones (I mean, check that ST: Horizon fan film out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l94v4YOqxOc totally not done by a few kids in their moms garage).

TL/DR: They made not just a fan project, they made (or tried to make) money out of Trek.

Edit:
Thats a pleasant surprise about Axanar: http://www.axanarproductions.com/jj-abrams-announces-that-paramount-to-drop-lawsuit/

Hard to say from that. TOS was great, mainly from a nostalgia point of view now. TNG was the high point, DS9 never really grabbed me, some bits were good, others not so much. Voyager was crap. Enterprise was watchable, not sure why they pulled the plug on that. So new series, its likely to have all the PC things going on, tame story for the Disney watchers, with some gungho US trooper style wade in and solve the worlds problems for the CODooty lot. May catch up with a few episodes some years down the line.
I hope they give it a subtitle by the time it airs. I hate this current trend of just calling everything by the generic series name (especially if that name was already used).

Didn't know about the anthology possibility until I read this topic after watching the teaser- my assumption was that the logo looks sort of 'scarred', possibly suggesting a wartime setting. But TBH, as long as it's in the Prime timeline, I'll be happy.

As for the Axanar thing, apparently the lawsuit basically covered the unauthorised use of the entire Star Trek IP, but because it listed numerous specifics, people latched onto the one that seemed ridiculous and tried to make out that it was the only thing they were being sued for.
Not a fan of this teaser. It looks reminiscent of J.J. Abrams end credits for his last two movies.

However, I still have hope this new series will live up to past Star Trek TV series since Nicholas Meyer (writer and director of Star Trek II & VI) is writing the show and Rod Roddenberry (son of Gene Roddenberry) is executive producer.

LLAP Goglodytes ;)
