so im watching this thread since it started and i wondered do i have to take one before posting a new one or can i post one right now and pick one up later? :)

Yes, but make a point to link back to your gift when you take something later on...that way if your gift game is already gone to someone, it won't get added back into the available pool. BUT I will say that it's probably easier if you wait until there is something you want...
