I've gone through many phases of trying to get into TTRPGs in my life. I've bought a few sourcebooks and read up on lore but I've never quite pulled the trigger on it. Just the other day I bought the DnD 5e Player's Handbook. Does anyone here play? And this would have to be online unless you very coincidentally live in or around Birmingham, England. I've looked online for local groups but the nearest ones are close to 100 miles away (even though I live in the second largest city in the UK - what's up with this country?)

I should point out, I've been playing cRPGs for 20 years but that's the closest experience I have with tabletop outside of a few games of Descent and that kind of simplified stuff.

Yeah, I'd be looking for a DM and a few other players. I have an IRL friend that would very likely be up for it too. He's originally from England but now lives in Texas, we were just talking a few days ago on Discord about playing DnD. I'd love to DM myself eventually but for now it'd just be great to get some general experience.

Try local game shops in your area as well. In the US, they generally have a board with players/groups looking for others.
