I miss swimming, but I need a sea and an open horizon to enjoy it. And I don't have any at disposal right now. Swimming is, for me, about losing oneself far from the crowd, into this wide space that touches all the continents simultaneously. Walking around in a packed swimming pool is not quite the same, and the lake isn't quite satisfactory either.
I am the worst swimmer in the world, but I love the feel of swimming in the sea. Unluckily I live in the farthest place from the sea you can find in Spain, but I will soon put a remedy to that with my yearly vacation. :)

PoppyAppletree: It can be odd how cold the sea can be in summer, which made me wonder about its properties.
The seas take longer to change temperature than the air. That's why there's a two-three month period of delay between air temperature and sea temperature. The sea is warmer during September than June. Ocean currents/winds may also influence; the Mediterranean, being an almost inner sea, is a lot warmer than the Atlantic.
Ocean or big lake, no. Rivers and small lakes, yes. But I don't go out of my way to go swimming. If it happens that there's the opportunity - such as at my brother's in-law's cabin - then sure.
I walk across the ocean. It's a very long summer.
