Sachys: Crabsticks and fishsticks co-exist on the menu.

I have never seen or heard those called fish sticks in the UK... Sometimes they're called seafood sticks, which your image link alludes to.

Some people do call them fishsticks though, and you CAN buy actual crab sticks made of crab (but they arent common, or cheap - kind of hipsterish in fact - not that I eat seafood. blegh!).

Yeah, I don't like them either. They arguably should be (but aren't) sold as fish sticks... perhaps "ocean floor sweeping sticks" might be more accurate.

Tallima: Have you ever had a preconceived notion of a culture but when you visited the culture, it was completely different than what you had learned about it or assumed? I'd love to hear about your experiences.

So what about you? Have you visited another culture or country and been surprised by what you learned?
I don't travel much but I love this thread's basic idea/premise. Thanks for making it and posting some very interesting and touching stories. :)

I knew someone who was allergic to pork and had a reaction to them, so I would not believe they are restricted to the floor scraps from a cannery by any means; more likely any offal and probably even sawdust.

On topic: one of the most surprising observations we had was the quantity of people with mobility aids in Amsterdam. The second largest cohort of people there are for medicinal help, which tends to get lost in the screaming matches between libertarians and puritans fighting over who should have access to what substances.
