The Supraland dev has posted this in a Backer Update on Steam:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GOG

A lot of you already heard about it from all kinds of sources. Due to way too low sale numbers we stopped the GOG support and unlisted the game there. We cannot offer version parity and don't want GOG customers to have a lesser version. Getting the APIs between the game and the platform to communicate properly is no trivial task, but at this point it was financially not viable to do so.

If you are totally outraged about GOG support being dropped, you are completely right of course and I apologize. But what can you do?

- We can give you a Steam key if you email us your GOG receipt of the game.

- If this is unacceptable to you (then why are you reading this on Steam?) you can email us your refund wish including your paypal address.

Shendue: He cannot do a build for both because Steam requires DRM, I suppose.
The game does not use Steamworks. If you disregard the installation via the Steam client, it's DRM-free and can be run without Steam.

Shendue: BTW, Supraland just released as one of the bundled games for Humble Choice/Humble Monthly. I guess the developer is generally pissed off because it isn't making as much as he hoped for.
That's probably more to do with the upcoming release of the DLC.

I'm sad that things evolved into this direction, because its a great game, but that sounds like a fair offer from the dev.

ChrisGamer300: Good riddance and thank you GOG, this is what you need to do with all devs like this one without them taking the first iniative.

timppu: It wasn't GOG's decision and action. Above, GOG said it was publisher's request.
Yes i know, i already explained what i meant in a later post and the reasons i know about too but it doesn't change anything.

Well, where else could one read it? (Also, Paypal only?) Not like the post on the GOG forums mentions the possibility of refunds. (But it does again say that it's DRM free on Steam, which is absurd, needing the client to get it in the first place being DRM.)
Since the developer has agreed to give a free Steam key OR a refund to those who want it, I consider the case closed. I can fully understand if he doesn't feel it is feasible to continue supporting the GOG version, and he clearly is willing to compensate it to those who bought it on GOG.
Supraland is a good game; however, the attitude of the dev is totally unacceptable to me.

I guess the developer's idea was that "since you clearly have a Steam account too, why wouldn't you be happy with a Steam key?".

Of course that doesn't take into account that:

1. No, not all the affected people are reading it on Steam (but on GOG, quoted by other GOG users), and you don't actually need a Steam account to read the news on https://store.steampowered.com/

2. Many people may have bought the GOG version due to e.g. the standalone installer that GOG provides (and Steam doesn't), even if they could have gotten the Steam version cheaper from e.g. some 3rd party Steam key seller site. So if they only get a Steam key for their purchase, they paid extra for nothing.

timppu: Well, if the GOG version really was selling so poorly as he said, I can't really blame him. I don't know whose "fault" it is:

1. The publisher: he released the GOG version months after the Steam version, and not sure how well they supported the GOG version before this either. Maybe they themselves made the GOG version feel like an inferior version of the game, or maybe the GOG version cost more and didn't get as deep discounts as the Steam version, or whatever.
GoG is to blame as well, according to the dev:

"GoG ignored my request to release on their platform on launch. They only asked me a while after release.
(Supraland took part) in sales, yes."

Again - if it's really that hard to keep parity:
Put Supraland back on GoG when it's finished receiving updates/DLC and is all patched up. As a sort of GOTY edition, if you will. I'd go that route if I were in the dev's place.
No surprises here, the developer was actively hostile towards GOG customers in the release thread.

mqstout: This was a game I had wanted to play at some point down the road; it looked fun.

I'm sad the developer is being stupid about this.
Same here, I had it wishlisted for when I got a better computer because the demo ran like crap on my old machine.

All the more reason it's weird that putting the game on GOG is "time consuming" or "difficult".

According to Dev GoG insisted they use their API
Sad this game is gone from GOG and my wishlist.

That's either untrue, or GOG has a double standard. People are constantly complaining about GOG versions not having achievements so clearly GOG doesn't insist on that for everyone.

As much as I love GoG, I'd say the latter.
