This happens every year, you'd think Valve would of finally used their billions to buy some massive server building or something, too stingy I guess.
So, Steam isn't competent enough to run a stupid web page without lag. Yeah, they got a lot of users. But so does Google / Facebook / Youtube / Netflix. But of course, Steam might feel plenty awesome when their site is down due to huge demand! :-P

muntdefems: In these occasions, is only the store side of Steam that is affected, or is the client also borked (and thus one cannot play their DRMed games)?
In my experience it has only been on the store side, the client shows no ill affects for me

misteryo: In addition, you know darn well that GOG has it's share of problems during sales - discount percentages displaying incorrectly, notification emails going out after the sale has ended, etc., etc.

I love GOG or I wouldn't be here, but you're not going to get very far claiming that GOG has fewer technical problems than Valve.
GOG bear.

Although truthfully, it's been a while since last time (at least for me), so GOG has really improved.

magejake50: -When GOG has a sale-

"Ooo a sale, let me check my wishlist to see if anything I want is discounted"
-clicks wishlist, loads almost instantly-
"Oh yes, these 3 games are, I'm gonna buy them"
-Clicks on games, games automatically added to cart-
"That was easy"
-clicks on cart, 30 seconds later all games are brought-

-When Steam has a sale-

"Ooo, it's one of those big Steam Sales today isn't it, let me just open up Steam"
-Clicks Steam Shortcut, nothing happens, click again, still nothing-
"*Sigh* This again"
-Restarts Comp, waits 2 minutes, clicks Steam, Steam opens onto Library-
"It's about time, now let me see what games on my wishlist are on sale"
-Clicks Wishlist, Steam opens up a page from a game previously looked at-
"hmm, that's frustrating"
-Clicks Wishlist, Steam says 'There are no games in the wishlist'-
"*Sigh* This again, I thought they fixed this"
-Clicks Store, Clicks Store again, Clicks the Wishlist Link on the store page, after about 30 seconds of loading it opens-
"Finally, oh wow, these 3 games I want are on sale"
-Clicks First Game, lag, opens up Game Page, Clicks buy, lag, Opens up Cart, Click back to wishlist, more lag-
-Repeat 2 more times-
"Alright now to pay for these"
-click, lag, click, lag-
"Wow, I hope these games were worth all that waiting around"

I mean, surely a company with the resources Valve has is able to make the whole process smoother, it's embarrassing. I'm not even exaggerating the using Steam roleplay, that was me twenty minutes ago trying to buy 3 Total War games.
Right, because GOG's servers have never crapped out on them. What a load of shite, eh!
Neither do publishers: https://store.steampowered.com/app/204880/Sins_of_a_Solar_Empire_Rebellion/

75% and 54% off for Steam's Summer Sale, but only 25% off for gog's. Am I crazy, or does it seem like gog's sale prices have been much worse lately compared to others? Did we do something to piss off publishers that i'm not aware of? I've seen those and other games have better sale prices on gog before, but now it seems like we haven't gotten as good of sale prices on some games like we used to.

Are you aware that gog users buy less games than steam users?

Fully, but it doesn't seem like a valid reason to me.

I imagine that publishers see it as reason valid enogh to compensate low sales with higher prices. After all, there are quite a few people here on GoG who boast that they will never go to Steam because of DRM. So it is unsurprising that someone thinks that it is an opportunity to collect more money through higher prices.

There really weren't any super discounts this time, that's true.

But I think you are also forgetting that GOG had free games, unlockable games, and GOG connect games, none of which Steam sale has. Those should be factored in when considering which is a better sale?

I'm laying this on the publisher, not GOG or Steam. That sale price difference is just absurd to me considering those games have had much better sale prices here before. But oh well, guess that publisher won't get a purchase from me for now.
Valve. Valve never changes.
