Of course bans can be illegal. If you pay for a forum participation for example then "unjustified" bans are probably illegal in EU due to end user protection laws. If a credit card was used to pay then "unjustified" banning probably also runs afoul of the ToS between forum and credit card.
Whether there is a right or not obviously depends on the ToS (etc).
I dont know about the OP. I was not trying to imply that the OP was unjustly banned. I was referring to the implication in this thread that forum bans come with MP participation restrictions.
Lifthrasil: And even that would be legal for Steam. You don't buy games there. You buy a license to play them for as long as Steam keeps them available for you. That's the entire point of their DRM-scheme. You rent access to games and they can unilaterally cancel the lease contract. You don't own anything and so they don't take anything away that you own. So far as I know actual legal precedent in EU suggests that you do indeed 'own' your Steam games. (But far as I know this isnt final yet.)
