Has anyone tried the Steam Controller on some games from GOG?

Did it work well? How did you set up your controls?

I'm mainly curious about Witcher 3, but you're free to answer for any game, as I'm probably going to buy more games from GOG in the future :P

Thanks!

I've played over 120 hours of The Witcher 3 and all of it with the Steam Controller. I've also played a little Anno 1404 and the Guild 2 and I tried a few platformers and action games all bought at GOG.

As for setting up control, you change the default ones to whatever you want, you can't however download setups made by other Steam players as far as I know as you have to add the game as Non-Steam.

To minimize the set up time I created one for PC and one with the controller setup as a "general" control that is used by most games, made it easier to only change one or two button depending on the game.

Do you own one or do you plan to buy one?
I don't have a controller for my PC right now and I've considered getting the Steam controller because it looks like it would be comfortable to use. Is it? At some point, I'll definitely get a controller and it's a strong possibility.

How do you rate it compared to the ps and xbox controllers?

Oh, yes especially if you like Haptic Feedback pads, they reduce strain of your thumbs. There's also loads of interesting settings you can change. For example, in Witcher 3 you need a lot of buttons, more than there's available in one "setup" for the SC but you can add another schematics that you then stick to one button so when you press it you instantly get a new "setup". I have one for Exploration and one for Combat. You can change sensitivity on some of the buttons too.

Then there's the HF you can add out of boundaries hotkeys so if you touch the edges of them, you for example add a Run hotkey making it more seamless rather than pressing or holding yet another button somewhere.

It's still inferior to mouse if you want to play fast strategy or shooter games.

It's better than both IMO but I have limited experience with a PS2 controller (I bought for PS1 and PS2 emulators) and even less with xbox, I don't really like that one.

It boils down to the Haptic Feedback. You can actually use them as physical buttons but I never do, the experience of having your fingers flow between the buttons is great.

Sounds like it might be what I want. I'm sure I'll still use the mouse for things like strategy/simulation games, but arcade-style or shooter games are more fun using a controller. I remember having a Gravis gamepad for the PC in the early 90's when that kind of thing was rare (or unheard of). I played a lot of Mortal Kombat and Doom with that. In Doom, it was harder to be accurate with the gamepad than if I was using the keyboard, but it was more fun.
Thanks for your replies!

I purchased one about a week ago. It's very awesome for the games I own on Steam, but when I added Watch_Dogs (uPlay version) I had a lot of problems with the controller.... Difficult time making it seem like an actual controller to the game, instead of a keyboard and mouse, strangely... I was worried it might be the same problem with every game I buy from GOG. Did you have that problem with GOG games?

For the most part I remap it as a mouse and keyboard (the right Haptic Feedback as a mouse for example) but if the game supports D-input like Watch Dogs probably does, by default it's going to assume you want to play it as a Xbox 360 controller unless I misunderstood your problem.

Another reason for uPlay is conflict with its client since GOG doesn't force Galaxy (I haven't used Galaxy in a while) especially since you need to use Steam at the same time. Did you purchase Watch Dogs on Steam but it requires uPlay at the same time? You could try disabling uPlay's version of Overlay and see if that makes a difference.

It's actually the uPlay (non-Steam) version of the game. And yeah, it doesn't seem to register it as an Xbox 360 controller for some reason, so ABXY don't register as ABXY, but some random letters in the keyboard...
