Snowflakez: OK movie, overall. Nothing special.
I liked Bladerunner 2049 (I know, I know...) and even its original more than this as far as sci-fi movies go, and I've read, played and seen better Star Wars stories in the past. Even the Boba Fett young adult "novels" exceeded this in terms of overall quality and character development.
Rose saving Finn was absolutely retarded and made no sense, and the Kylo/Rei love story (?) was equally as dumb.
As far as the former goes, it drove me nuts that Rose -- who has essentially just fuckin' met this guy -- is trying to prevent Finn from potentially saving the remaining rebels. As Finn sped towards the cannon, I was cheering inside. A heroic sacrifice that serves a purpose - he's resigned himself to his fate, he's ready to die for the cause...
BUT WAIT. Ultra-Forced-Love-Interest is here to save the day.
Yes, Fin would have most likely died if Rose hadn't done what she did (Though I don't buy that he couldn't have just jumped out and survived, given the fact that another speeder crashed into him at high speed and he was just fine, if a bit bruised up), but the cannon would be destroyed, eliminating the biggest present threat.
As to the latter -- the Rei/Kylo romance (?) -- oh, hey, we're like connected and stuff, so let's love each other or something.
OK, sure. Whatever you say. Just ignore the fact that you (Rei) spent the entire previous movie (And much of this movie) worrying about Finn's well-being and vice versa, developing a clear romantic relationship that actually makes fuckin' sense.
Dunno. Both romances in this movie felt cringey and forced as hell.
Romance subplots aside, the rest of the movie was alright. Not great, as I said, but alright. Lots of inconsistencies and shit that just doesn't make any sense, but I guess we just have to accept that for this trilogy.
Romance in the movie? Yeah, I'll pass. I'm interested in a science fiction action movie, not some romance bullshit. I'm sick of Hollywood trying to merge different genres into one to make as much money as possible. I want to see space battles, light saber battles, the light side vs the dark side. I want to see the main characters grow into bad asses. I want to see villains terrorizing the galaxy. All the stuff that made the original Star Wars movies great. And the romance between Han and Leia was tolerable because it came very naturally and it was done in a way that wasn't obnoxious. Like it wasn't in your face so fast. And didn't take over the movie. So I'm willing to overlook that romance but other romances in movies. No way. None of my money for you, Last Jedi...
