It's been 10 years since the release of STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl (release dates were 20th-23rd March 2007 depending on region), and I've decided to run a little giveaway to celebrate.

I remember when it was released - I hadn't been following its development & didn't know much about it but I saw it coming up for release and thought it looked really good, so I decided to buy its collector's edition. It turned out to be a good decision as it quickly became one of my favourite game series: I later bought the Russian collector's edition of Clear Sky when that came out (in addition to the regular UK retail release - there was no CE of Clear Sky released here) and the German collector's edition of Call of Pripyat (again, along with the UK release). And of course they were instabuys as soon as they were released here :)

As well as this giveaway I have also made some scripts to automatically build Linux Wine wrappers for these games. These games all run great in Wine and with my scripts playing them on Linux is easier than ever, providing an almost "native" experience with no Wine knowledge required. Finally, the usual shilling for the Linux Mint beginner's guide I wrote: The "Try Linux" Repost/Rewrite (a "beginner's guide"). Take a look if you're interested in Linux at all; it's a lot better and easier to use now than people think :) Plus with Microsoft now blocking updates to Windows 7 and 8.x on Ryzen and Kaby Lake systems, now would be a good time to look into it if you don't want to be forced over to Windows 10.

I had problems getting Shadow of Chernobyl to run perfectly with Wine a few years back, so maybe it's time for another try. I'll look into your script for that, thank you very much!

Not in, as I bought these games when they were released on gog. Still haven't played them though.
I think I played a bit from Shadow of Chernobyl, but left it as I was a bit confused by the inventory management, and iirc the letters were a tad too small for my taste - I should probably find a bigger letters mod or something.
Anyways, I'm posting here to thank you for these scripts, as I've fully transitioned to Linux Mint 18.1 Mate in the meanwhile, so if I wish to play these games, these scripts will come in handy. Only thing that might prove a problem is that I have Mesa 12.0.6, and in the thread Lin545 mentioned something about Mesa having a problem, but I guess by the time I get around to trying the scripts, the problem might be resolved.
On another note, I found a solution to my conundrum of what I should do with Office. I now use Google Docs for my word processing needs, especially as they have most of the features I need from a word document (e.g. footnotes) and Google Docs also exports files to docx, odt, rtf, and pdf amongst others, and these exports are also quite good, most notably Google's docx being very compatible with MS Word. So that problem was solved, and I'm now a happy Linux MInt user!

I have played through COP twice, the second time with the Complete mod, and it is one of my fave FPS. Been wanting to pick up the first two to enjoy them as well.....so, I am in as well for:
