Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

xizar: I'm fairly sure GOG will hail this as a win because they'll've sold all the sale units the posted, but I think this is a bad idea for the average consumer (or anyone who doesn't live in front of a computer screen) as opposed to the person willing to leave a browser page and maintain CONSTANT VIGILANCE!
Its not like they came up with this themselves, this sort of selling has been going on for years, there are entire websites who are dedicated to these kind of sales. They work.
And you will find, that most of us do live in front of a computer screen.

amuleth: So is there anyone who could get a free game?
Not a chance.

FabioCapela: I guess I'm the exception here, but I will leave the site now and take another look only next week, after this promo has safely ended.

I really hate being pressured to make a snap purchase decision, so looking at this promo would be far too stressful for me to bother with. It's not worth whichever savings I could get.
then pick few games you want to get and if they show up buy them. don't buy random game because its cheap...

(which i do btw and regret it all the time)
Come on need Battle World Kronos baby! :P

KoolZoid: And again, insta-gone..... Someone call the bot police! :P
Yeah it's ridiculous, I hope the people who get the freebies are getting them fair and square, it would suck if it was a bunch of idiots using scripts.

jorlin: The frees are impossible. they are gone even before you see them. Come on, a few extra copies please.

Bosamba: This kind of tactic should be beyond GOG.

F4LL0UT: I agree. One of the things I value about GOG is that it normally avoids exclusivity as well as exploitation of blind consumerism, at least it approaches these things far more carefully than the competition and to me it makes GOG appear like a sophisticated place that respects me and every other consumer. This promo goes absolutely against all of this.
Actually, this promo is more like playing whack-a-mole... this ridiculousness is totally voluntary, and not exploitive...

amuleth: So is there anyone who could get a free game?
I did manage to get Tropico 3, but that was the second (I think) freebie being offered. That is, way before the masses flocked the site.
I'm just sticking to the wishlist, I'm just sticking to the wishlist, I'm just sticking to the wishlist...
People need to stop shouting bots. I'd give a conservative estimate that at least 1400 people are on this promo right now just based on the fact 700 copies of NWN 2 went in minutes. Thats assuming only 50% of the people already had it which is low.

Now everyones chance of getting between 8-40 free games vs 1400 people is fairly low. Everyone is clicking like mad just like you are. Some are lucky most won't be.
Just bought real Texas never heard of it but it looks like my type of game, can't complain for the price
Picked up Real Texas for $3 and I can't be upset about that, even if I hate it.

Seriously doubt I'll maintain a vigil here but shit, I live in the forum anyway and some of the people here actually like me so I've got Christmas to work on my wish list.

Scorpionscythe: Ok, the free games are getting stupid. I can't click on anything without it saying expired (if it even shows up).
avatar
PirateNeilsouth: It's a bloody scam that's what it is, they are gone even before it appears!
There are no free games; free games is a lie.
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri now
Nope.

Don't do this again. Never.
I can hear the screaming of people missing a game because it will insta-gone.
Guys seriously, can you see all that people at the hospital for this 3 days (or whatever will continue this sale) without sleeping/eating/drinking? Without considering the dilapidated bank accounts.

No guys, that's evil. Pure evil. Geniously evil.
