Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

If you're going to play Baldur's Gate then I definitely recommend that you take a look at this:

It will really enhance the experience. Anyway, enjoy what is a great game.

Starmaker: While I have plenty to disagree on with jamyskis, I don't really think he's confused about anything. He's talking about the cost of access to the game for the end user. You started talking about the cost of developing the product for the developer and THEN switched to perceived worth. These are different processes. No one is entitled to a sale. Making something and selling access to it are different businesses. if you can't make money selling copies, try selling something else to support your development efforts.

And yes, it's a real problem that digital distribution already faces. Because the stuff you might want to sell copies of isn't only competing with the same stuff on TPB, it's also competing with all the free entertainment the internet provides. There are more free comics on the internet than you can read in a lifetime. Just comics. That's why we have sequelitis and franchise milking; at least pedigreed established franchises have a name recognition advantage over all the free stuff you've never heard of.

"GOG needs to keep the servers running" is not a good argument. It nevar evar was. Consuming electricity is not a goal in and of itself. You need GOG to keep their servers running so you can get games off them. And when most people would rather grab a free mod of a free game off a torrent, the business of selling copies will be over.
I don't actually disagree with anything you've said there, so...

Great article, by the way. Number 4 is particularly relevant in this case.

Lariat burned me with Divinity 2. It was boring and repetitve for me. And in my defense, I did play some stinkers in that genre. So nop, no dragon commander for me. Maybe Original Sin will redeem them.
Well, my eyes are about to explode, so its off to bed for awhile O_O hope I don't miss out on some Witcher 2 action D: night/morning all and good luck in the sale!!

I saw a video on Divinity 2 DC and was sold, put it on my wish list instantly. It looks like just the sorta thing I'd sink my teeth into. :D

Well it looked like fun at first, but after Divine Divinity, I expected more. Lot of regurgitated landscapes, and loads of mindless slaughter of enemies with very little variation in combat skills. But that's just my personal opinion. And luckily I bought it together with Risen, so I just put it away, then found myself spending 3 straight days stranded on an island building swords and running from monks trying to make me mop the floor.
what is it whit this jack keane? is this game so good? never read something about it? is it better than NWN2? ...maybe i should watch an review^^
What did i missed in the last hour ? after 5 hours thunderscape ....
