Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

stg83: How good is NI no Kuni? This is coming from someone who has never played a turned based JPRG but I love Studio Ghibli films so that is why I got the game.
avatar
Shendue: It's excellent and visually it's really stunning (Studio Ghibli collaboration, this is all there is to say), but if you never played a JRPG i can't foresee if you are gonna like the gameplay. Never played a JRPG? Seriously? They are very different from WRPG games. If you like WRPGs you may even hate them.
It's quite light on the grinding needed to finish the story, I think, but for completionists it can be a tough cookie. Otherwise, it has an emotional storyline, great cutscenes (both with ingame graphics and Ghibli animation) and quite a lot to offer. The battle system can be a bit tricky at the beginning but you'll quickly get into it.
Brilliant

No, Groovy!!

skeletonbow: The important thing ultimately always is whether one feels they are getting their true money's worth of entertainment value for the price paid over time.
Exactly what I was saying. :)

avatar
skeletonbow: I can justify $50 or more for some games in that context and I've paid as much as $80 in the past (Warcraft III I think), but nowadays with an extensive back catalogue and lots of patience even though I'd arguably get my money's worth out of a $60 purchase I just ask myself "why?" when I can just wait for a sale and keep myself more than occupied with what I already have. :)
Familiar feeling - that's how I got most of so called "AAA" titles I own, because I either played demo, or played full game at friends and when I was playing I was thinking "nuh, this thing doesn't hooks me up" or I simply couldn't justify price/content ratio. Spec-Ops the line is best example of latter. I like it, but campaign was very short. Full price is a way too high for that.
Some games reminds me of triple-p - perfect pedant procrastinator - "I'll be playing this... later". :D

avatar
skeletonbow: I can't say that some title wont come out that I freak out about enough to just *have* to get it right away, but it's been years since a game gave me that much of a pie eyed charge to need it right this second.
Or you know you wouldn't be able to play at release, yet you like studio very much (Stardock, or, ahem, CDPR;)) and you buy their game just to support them. Yeah, I know, sounds stupid, but what else you can do - buy more games? *remembers stack of Witchers' boxes*

avatar
skeletonbow: Everyone has different gaming habits though of course, and not everyone has a good sized back catalogue to occupy themselves with while waiting for a sale too. :)
Not that I'm Grumpy Cat impersonation, but maybe modern games aren't that attractive to anyone with rather significant gaming experience under his belt. Simply put, we can't find most modern games entertaining.
Can you remember which games were instant buy for you, and those were complitely unknown to you, not from people you know, not from series you like - completely new name? I couldn't remember, so I have to dig through receipts. Game's name - Inquisitor (reminds me how I bought Eschalon Book or first Spiderweb's title). Oh, the irony. For me that's best RPG of 2012, not that "(f)art" from Edmonton. Even if Frozen Synapse, Endless Space, Space Engineers, or Euro Truck Simulator 2 are more expensive than those above, I doubt anyone could name these games "trible A". That doesn't makes them bad, of course, but I guess someone's comment that modern AAA are casual mass-market oriented is correct.

avatar
skeletonbow: I got Warcraft 2 installed and running in Windows 7 and it experiences that problem also, but once I heard Blizzard is currently remaking the old classics for modern OSs I decided to just leave it be for now. :)
I suppose there are some questions over this "remake":
- How much they'll charge for it.
- Mandatory "always on" battle.net requirement. For our own convinience, safety, and server-side calculations, of course. :)
- Auction houses.
- PS3/4 version, which is suprisingly better with gamepad.
Anyone know what games are left to come in this sale?

Shendue: I also liked the collector's edition of Ni No Kuni. The book is awesomely made.
As a collector, tho, i must say the absolute best collector's editions i've seen are some of the japanese ones. Japan get the best collector's editions; some of them are simply beautiful, like the Okamiden collector's edition, for example, that is absolutely gorgeous.

Cardian: Living in Germany, where everything gets censored and terribly dubbed, I have to import everything anyway ;)
i do not buy any game in germany any longer. They can keep their censored garbage. Have you EVER seen what they did with Saints Row 2? You can't see the videos, because they put a black overlay over it, saying "here happen terribel things, we can not show you"

You have to see it, to believe this. I was so angry, that I pirated the US version of the game i BOUGHT. That was the last game I bought in my country. Now all money now goes to distributors, who give me the uncensored versions. HELL I AM AN ADULT:

Seem to be a lot of left coasters here on GOG.

Yeah, I know I feel like a poser instead of a gamer :P. The thing is that rpgs require a lot of time investment which I always felt too much for me to spend on just one game so I never got into rpgs neither WRPGS nor JRPGS. The first game that finally compelled me to play an RPG is The Witcher which I still haven't finished yet but I am going to and then The Witcher 2. :P I played the Ni No Kuni demo and liked it. Thanks for the reply.
While we're talking sales, don't forget that in about 45 minutes a new batch of 7-8 games will go up (heavily discounted) on the humble bundle store!
Still to come

stutzjon: Radeon HD 7560D. Not great but I would think it would run this game since I can run Skyrim with fine FPS on medium settings
Have you tried disabling Ubersampling?
avatar
garrus74: That's weird, I ran it on a Core2Quad Q8300, 4GB ram, and GTX580. Was giving decent fps on 1920x1620 What is your gpu?

Yeah, that's strange. I initially had GTX280 when I bought it straight after release and was able to get stable 20fps on decent graphic settings. That made me bite the bullet and make the jump to a new card. Was highly worth it:)

You mean 7-8 games that go on their normal sale prices.
