Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

sharp299: Damn I´m so tired I have read Insolence Insted insomnia...-.-
Could be worse, could be the DRM-FREE FALL INCONTINENCE SALE
avatar
CalicoPup: Man, I hope the last thing they do for this sale is give out a free game to anyone who bought a game. Or just stick up a bunch of copies of one of the games.
Wait, that would be good, I mean, if they say something like "We know you may have missed one of the games you wanted from this sale, so if you bought X games from the Fall sale, then you may chose ONE of the games that were once given for free, and get it free too." I would love to have another chance to get Megabyte Punch for free.

foxworks: Thank God my bank didn't freak out over the many, many individual purchases over the last couple of days. Best just load up Paypal prior. My statement is going to be loooong!
My credit card has been blocked :(

But the debit card works fine so far

Xiko91: Seriously? Oh now I want BG2 so badly. Only have the first one.

itchy01ca01: Which mod do i use to get the BG2 engine into BG1?
The GOG game page for Baldur's Gate mentions this mod and links to it here:

Daz12380: ive a strange question about gog why are the prices in usd while they are based in europe
avatar
skeletonbow: Only someone from GOG.com could answer that definitively of course, but a reasonable speculation is that North America is their largest market demographic, and the USD is generally considered the universal global currency for trade. I'd also hypothesize that the majority of the rest of the world will purchase from retailers in USD for the most part, but I doubt very many North Americans would purchase from Poland in whatever polish currency is called.

Of course those are just generalizations and individual people will feel differently about it of course.

I've only purchased things online in CAD (preferred), USD (2nd preference), and I've bought some games from UK outfits priced in euros or pounds. I probably would not purchase from anywhere else in other currencies however and a quick poll of some North American friends in a chat room was almost unanimous on USD and CAD, some people saying they'd do euro/pounds and nothing else. So I'd bet that pricing in a currency other than these would more or less cause the entire North American market to avoid purchase. ;o)

They could provide prices in individual currencies of course, but I imagine they want to keep things simple, and with currency prices fluctuating by the minute they'd have to choose one base currency and update game prices in all other currencies frequently to keep up.

It might not be the best possible solution, but USD is the defacto standard for the most part. I'd prefer it to be CAD myself but then I'm biased. :oP
Trivia: the Polish currency is called "euro". Poland is part of the EU, so they use the euro like every one else here -- except for the UK.

CorranHorn: BG 1 engine is pretty dated and I had some major problems playing it, if you want the "hardcore" experience play it without mods but if you have problem or don´t care for that then install the mod, the BG 2 engine makes the game look so much better. I remember staring in amazement as I started the second game, they did wonders to the engine with the second game.

It doesn't so much update BG1 to BG 2, as adds BG 1 into BG 2. They explain how to here

I bought Jade Empire just for The Witcher, it turned out wonderfully.

Trivia: You are wrong.

Poland uses Polish zloty. That said, most Polish banks now set your credit/debit cards up so the conversion to euro brings them no profit. Poland is technically obligated to join eurozone, however the state must be "healthy" first for two years, which provides a loophole for the government. There is a huge opposition to euro introduction, but that's a topic for a different day.

I'm glad you posted here, so I can +1 you.

If wormhole makes post I'll rep him up even though I didn't use his key, since you helped me out first.

:O lol! I honestly thought you guys used euros as well! Are you still using zloty?

Actually they use the Zloty, they can't use the Euro until they pass certain financial criteria. Which is actually the real reason we don't use the Euro in the UK, just before we were going to join the Pound crashed which meant we had to back out of using the Euro...

groze: I'd honestly like to try Lucius, just by looking at screenshots and watching the trailer I know it's my kind of game. Well worth the €3 they're asking for it right now. Unfortunately, once again, my tin can of a computer is letting me down, since, according to GOG's page of the game, it doesn't meet the minimum requirements to run the game.

And I'm not making the same mistake I made during the Summer sale, in which I bought Alan Wake and Alan Wake: American Nightmare "Wide A. Wake" pack for €4 just because I felt it was way too good a deal to pass on, and now those games are gathering virtual dust in my GOG shelf, since I don't have the machine to run them.

So... sorry, Lucius, I really am sorry.
avatar
Zeeaire: yeah same here xD I was ultimately astonished at the price of alan wake and when running the game I realized my pc just won't like it...I think my pc isn't used to a 'new' game like that since I usually only play the older ones...
anyway, I've watched enough movies about something like this, so fortunately I don't need any more 'lucius'...
Have you tried running Alan Wake on your PC? Me and others for a long time have made fun of some indie game developers that put ridiculously high System Requirements for their games. Most of which could run on a toaster with an interface. Alan Wake might not apply though, but I still remember that 99 Levels of Hell has higher game requirements than the original Crysis . Many of us laughed at that.
