Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

gscotti: I woke up after my "afternoon" nap (lasted a tad longer than I expected, probably due to the sleepless hours of the promo) and noticed that Omerta was keaning. Wanted to check the forum for humorous comments - and the best one is your optimistic post! I know you were serious, but "At least Omerta won't last as long as other games have." made me chuckle.

RichterSnipes: Thanks, I guess! Always happy to provide verbal goods.

Omerta will be out in no more than 80 minutes, realistically. Still better than other games, but I guess timing really doesn't help it. Especially if you just woke up.
Well, you may be right. It should be kept in mind that Omerta was supposed to be offered with 300 copies this time around, but they realized the horror that would cause, and moderated it. Same as with the 3rd round of Jack Keane 2, when they were supposed to offer 750 but instead offered only 25. Which was brilliant.
To tell the truth, I realy missed Megabyte Punch, to bad I have not much to offer, I hope it somehow appears again ._.
I mean, the free ones seem to be rather random.

Almost halfway there...

clcaztx: Definitely buy Icewind Dale. I loved that game. Too bad they're not offering ID2.
What are you talking about? You still haven't bought ID2, yet?
I asked via pm for BG1, but i had my pm from users diabled, sorry

I won it free. If I could, i'd gift you it, but it seems I cannot :/
Halfway there, and I am done folding clothes. Very eventful day, indeed.

Chevette: I've given everything out but BG 1 so far, so check pms and I'm so sorry if I didn't give you one. I gave them out to the first folks who asked.

I know somebody wanted BG 1 but my messages blew up and I didn't get it, so if you could post it here I'll see to it!

123MGS456: Hey, I'd love BG1 if you still have it?
=]
Sadly, it has gone now. Sorry about that!

Hope folks enjoy their gifts, and be nice to each other :)

Chevette, thank you. You deserve a statue!

EX-Deimon: Good thing GoG had pity on us today, imagine if they sold Omerta for something like 500-600 copies. You can at least sleep for another good few hours at least.
Yes, it is also like Planescape: Torment, System Shock 2, Super Metroid, Thief 2 and most other great games. You should definitely buy it. Plus 80 or so copies for your friends and families.
avatar
spoonwhale: If i like Baldur's, then i'll like planescape as well, then?
avatar
MasodikTiasma: Not necessarily. Planescape is a great game, but it's a lot more "brainy" than Baldur. If you like dark fantasy books (Moorcock, The Witcher, A Song of Ice and Fire) you'll probably like Torment.

But as people have said, it's a game that's good mostly for the setting, characters and dialogues. Don't expect the combat to be as strategic as BG: it's the same system, but simplified.
Planescape = dialogue heavy
IWD = hack and slash
BG = bit of both...nice balance
Trying to decide if I have enough time to pop to the shops before Omerta is up... would take around 15 minutes.
Don't want to miss out on NWN Diamond though. =/

Gah sorry, it was given out already. :( I'm sorry.

gscotti: Did Baldur's Gate run the final lap??
avatar
dedoporno: Half an hour ago
Was it a popular buy?

JohnnyDollar: That's all I can remember, I think I got it off of a movie. I think it was the Breakfast Club.

Just passing the time now that one of the best selling and most highly rated game has arrived. ;)

JustSayin: Me too. I don't even want the games that are left. Here just because...
Well I might get Neverwinter Nights. Depends on how I feel when it shows up.
I've put off both that one and Jade Empire in this sale. I might impulse buy them in this last round, I don't know. My understanding is that NWN 1 single player is only worth getting for the mods only, and Jade Empire is mediocre at best. A lot of folks here rate JE high, but I've also read that it's cliche ridden and full of generic stereotypes, very linear (typical Bioware), amongst other complaints.
