Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Russonc: 398....moving at a reasonable pace...(to keep me from leaving...)
^-^ I'd so help it go, but I've bought so much already.
The sun is shining and me batteries are fully recharged. Ah what wonders 7hrs of sleep can do...and I see I've missed nothing of great importance. What a glorious day indeed.

Now, lets bring on the big boys! *prepares wallet*

HexElf: Thanks a ton!
Any time! :)

BlueLlama: Look at what happened to Robert Jordan. Personally, I couldn't get past his lame characters and their constant emoting, but it was kind of sad to see an author die before they finish their work.
avatar
northern7: do whar i do...wait until series are completed before reading them. :)
I try to do that as much as possible. I've had authors quit in the middle of a series I liked, or passed on before finishing. It's frustrating to a reader! I really dislike picking up a new series due to the waiting for the next. For instance, my wife and I didn't start the Harry Potter series until I think book three was out. We quickly caught up of course, but at least we didn't have those extra couple of years to wait like we would have had at the beginning.

arcusc: Wonder how much I'm actually saving on this promo seeing as I have a) bought more games than I originally had on my wishlist, and b) kept the computer on for more than 72 hours, using more electricity than normal.
Yeah, it mystifies me how people can say this sale would be more successful if it were more efficient. The sale has travelled along, sometimes moseying, sometimes rushing, sometimes Keaning, but generally keeping people engaged, committed, buying lots and considering games they otherwise wouldn't have thought about. I'm not saying I'd like to see the same format anytime soon (I don't have the stamina) but I suspect it's been pretty good at both selling games and getting people involved with the GOG community. The ultra-slow third round has even given latecomers a chance to get in on the action.

Plus we've had bad poetry, lots of jokes, haiku, friendly discussions on tonnes of topics, and - never to be forgotten - the Keaning. One day we'll be able to tell our grandkids we were there!

And yes, I've bought more than was on my wishlist too. :-)
Speaking of authors, anyone else got authors they absolutely loved and then went "meh, I can't be bothered" with later books?

I can think of a few off the top of my head, Piers Anthony and Stephen Donaldson spring to mind straight away.

In comparison I still love pretty much anything written by Pratchett, Brooks and Feist :)

CorranHorn: Which where the impulse buys?
Lord of Midnight, Riddick, Evoland, Startopia, NWN2, Giana Sisters and HOMM5 and Anvil of Dawn
and If Jade Empires shows up that is really another one that I wasn't planning on...

David Gerrold quitting in the middle of the War Against the Chtorr series was horrible. Why!? Why did he do that. *sobs* I'll never understand.

DalamarNL: It happened with the Wheel of Time series. Robert Jordan died before he could finish it, a real shame.
Brandon Sanderson did a decent job writing the last books though, but I can't help but wonder how it would have been if RJ had finished the books himself.
avatar
Chevette: At least he knew he was dying and left copious notes and outlines to follow for finishing it. Still sad that he died before finishing though.
True. The last chapter(s) were pretty much already set. I can imagine though having to follow the outlines from RJ made writing the books a bit more difficult for BS.
Really loved the ending, not sure what everybody else's opinion is.
