Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Happy 25000 people. Take the night off, you've earned it!

Alien8n: Cthulhu says thank you for the meal...

Cardian: Cthulhu slumbers eternal. The Keaning wakes eternal.
Hell. Freaking. Yes.
It's totally a great old one... not sure how it would fair with the Slenderman though.
avatar
SpiderFighter: YMMV. Miami Hotline has good reviews but it's not for everyone. In my opinion, it has a great style, but boring game play.
avatar
EX-Deimon: What?! Bloody hell, man. I played that game over and over. Dunno, it's just so fun trying to play through the stage as quickly as you can while creating as much carnage as possible raking in as high score you possibly can with an awesome sound-track to boot. Loved it. Would have been my game of 2012 if it wasn't for Walking Dead
Hotline Miami is a game like Mirrors Edge, it´s played in a "trial by error" kind of way where you die a lot, if you don´t like those games then Hotline Miami is probably not for you (you as in, anyone reading this).

You snatched the 25000th post!

Congrats!
40 promo games remain...oy vey.

Draggon: snatch!
Was it worth it?

Alien8n:
Your opening point was

"This. Especially as it's looking increasingly likely that this will roll into Monday and some people have to work. As a result if the game they're after is missed they go away with a negative experience."

Which can be applied to any time

also

"The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale"

It could run till next year.

BHTrellis: Fell asleep on Fez and now it's Wing Commander. Anything I miss?

Any more freebies that I had no chance in hell of getting?
avatar
Nolerion: Only Strike Suit Zero and Aquanox, with Chaos Engine in between as freebie.
Actually managed to grab one, guess there's not as many people following the sale anymore.
Thanks. Damn, missed Aquanox again.

Draggon: snatch!

DubConqueror: You snatched the 25000th post!

Congrats!
lol - crazy, eh? I can't snatch any of the free games, but I can snatch a monumental, timeless placeholder in the great hall of Keaning!

techknight1337: You're welcome, though I actually haven't played them yet. I completely missed the WC series when it first came out. I recently picked up a joystick again, so I'm going back to them.
avatar
SpiderFighter: Same here. I had friends who were really into flight sims (and submarine and space sims) when they came out, but I was too busy working on my BBS and playing Wolfenstein 3D (and other FPSes). GOG has given me a chance to discover what they were all raving about back in the day.
Oh, I loved space sims back in the day, but I was completely into the X-Wing series and completely missed the Wing Commander series. :)

I dunno what to say. I bought it, and I want to like it so badly that I've tried playing it three different times, but I just get bored and end up playing something else.

I wish I could be as excited as everyone else, and I realize I'm in the minority.

ahab: People base whether to tell people about a site based on one promo? fuck me

You would think it would be for the work they put in to making old games work on new systems...should of known it's down to the sales
Exactly my point several times before! GOG is so much more than this sale, I'll keep telling all of my gamer friends to come here and buy games or just hang around.

The community is great, the ever-growing catalog is amazing, ranging from classics to cult classics to obscure indie contemporary gems and obscure cult back in the day gems as well, all optimized to run in modern systems and at dirt cheap prices.

Also, do notice GOG hasn't stopped because of this promo, all the stuff they use to do has been done at the same time the promo continues: releasing 3 or more titles per week, then the weekend promo, spanning whole three days.

This sale is great but even without it I think the price GOG asks for their games is more than fair. One of the most sought after games in here, Planescape: Torment, costs $9.99/€8-ish, and, if you ask me, ten bucks for one of the best games ever made is a steal. I understand people not passing the chance to get it cheaper, but it is one thing to not pass up the opportunity when it comes around, and something else entirely to simply never coming back to GOG because they missed the chance to buy Planescape "cheap" and now it's $10.

I'd rather pay $10 for System Shock 2 than whatever WB asks for their Arkham games.
