Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

tobias683: I hope that was sarcasm....if not and you are genuinely curious people hate it because it has been unanimously and universally been declared the WORST OS in the History of Forever.

qux: No it wasn't sarcasm, I'm serious; I genuinely liked Windows ME. Saying people hate it because some other person has decided it's shit is a poor reason to dislike something, so I ask again: what was the problem?
Buggy and unstable. Loved doing a clean reinstall just to have it give me errors I couldn't fix after it finished installing.

2000 was NT, ME was DOS (the last of its kind).

Oh wow, Keane strikes again I see. Good to see there shouldn't be much more of a wait til the next game.

Nolerion: Just had a good nights sleep after Monkey Island, seems i didn't miss anything. Phew :)
You people, with your "sleep" and your "alert, well-rested feeling". You don't know what you're missing. Stay up until you finally pass out at your desk, wake up all disoriented twenty minutes later, stay up another 8 or 9 hours, then repeat.
Good times.
Hmm Divine Divinity for 1.50 hmmmm.

Oh. Has HM broken Retro City rampages record yet? (formerly Jack Keane 2's) ahha

Having supported a number of people that used it, my view is that it was unstable, and poorly supported by microsoft. It was based on the aging dos based system as opposed to the NT system that 2000, XP, etc are based on.

i see tanks for the clarification

i think this tread is great for learning new things
I want a techon-monkey to tell me why ME sucked.

No, don't get me wrong. I jumped from '98 SE + straight to windows xp, skipping everything inbetween.

However if you try to find out 'why' windows ME sucked, you can't get a straight-forward, technical, nerdy answer.

And that's what I want... anyone?

Yeah, see I never had stability problems; never got a BSOD. Had some spotty sound issues which were rectified by installing a new driver and that was it. Guess I was lucky.

I kind of miss Visual Studio 6 as well but that's neither here nor there.

Don't think so if RCR really did go 8 hours. This is at 5 and a half or so now I think.

MadSweeney: I respectfully disagree. I use Paypal for Gog, which I hate (make some Gog gift cards, guys! or at least support pre-paid visas...). I only keep a few bucks in there at a time, since I only use it for one thing, and rarely. It takes at least three business days to transfer funds into my account, which especially sucks for deals that activate and end in the same weekend.

This has been a pretty interesting experience; it was enough to get me to finally post in the forum, and I love how people have been picking on the slow movers (poor Jack Keane...). As for the sale being time consuming: given the amount of Gog games on my backlog (HoMM3; Ultima 7; The Cat Lady; Alan Wake; Betrayal at Krondor; The Blackwell Bundle; I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream) I'll be set for a long while. Krondor, Ultima, and Heroes of M&Ms alone could take me a year, at least. And once I have Resonance, HoMM3, and Theme Hospital in my possession, I'll consider my Gog collection complete, seeing as I've already played every other game (that interests me) available.
Oh, no need to disagree... my statements are just how it is for me personally and not an all out right or wrong way of doing things, nor any kind of claim of what is best for everyone. There is no right or wrong, just what works or does not work for the individual. While it's been an interesting experiment it's largely a one time event for me for the most part. That is unless some big guy like Jack Black's character in Brutal Legend shows up at my door next sale threatening me with his axe to monitor GOG's sale for 4 days in a row. LOL If that happened though I'd invite him in and we'd spend 4 days jamming on guitar instead. ;oP

I believe ME was running DOS 6.0

Captain_Midnight: You can link credit cards or your checking account directly to your Paypal account. Don't have to wait for transfers that way. Actual money in the PP account can be reserved for sending to individuals.
I don't have a credit card, but I'll try calling the bank, thanks!
Hey, I got to go grocery shopping, if BG1 Complete makes a pass by the time I come back, please gift me. =( PLEASE. I cant put it off any longer, girlfriend will get upset. lol see you all soon, I hope!
