Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Ultima 7 is a legend. If we can't find enough people who think it is worth at least the measly sum of $1.49 then the site should be closed down and we should just forget the whole thing. BUY IT AND TRY IT. A fantastic adventure there. So much fun and so much mischief can be had. It runs very well too. I prefer this style than trying it through something like Exult (although that system might be fun to play around and break it on a second or later re run ;) ).
Yeah, this thread is weirdly entertaining. I should be writing a dissertation on cephalopods not sitting around on a forum, but hey.

cpucrust: Actually if anyone has experience with Gamers Gate, I was interested in a title named "Flat Out 2" a racing game which on GG claims to be DRM free.

Is it really DRM free like in the sense that GOG titles are? Or am I constrained by some kind of GG downloader/spyware that I must use to get/install the game?

Appreciate any guidance or thoughts on the GG experience.

Marcomies: On Gamersgate you download a separate downloader for every game and let it download the game. It does require the cd key to start downloadin.

The installer files are usually decrypted unless you have the installer running. It's not DRM free in the same sense than GOG but you won't need to install any gamersgate software on your computer to install or play the games (unless of course it's a steam game they sell). It's my second favourite site after GOG.
I use to have a lot of games from Gamersgate when it was the main platform for Paradox Studios releases (Crusader Kings II). But ever since Paradox sold GG to a different company and they started to compete with Steam, they haven't been as good as before (however, if you use Steam, when GG have a sale they usually sell a Steam jey cheaper than a Steam sale). I never had a problem with DRM on Gamersgate so far, apart from the process you just described. I would say go for it, they are quite good.

And now for something completely different: did Icewind Dale came up for the third time already?

Elinnea: Oh no, Ultima 7... I don't have it, wasn't planning to buy it... but it's one of the ones I was afraid I'd cave for if it came up. Do I want it?
avatar
Velgor: Yes. Get it. The best of the Ultima series by far before the ruins that were U8 & 9.
I was going to resist harder, but... eh, you're right. One more purchase done. Less than two dollars - why not?
Will there be another sale in december? Missed NWN 2 ( I think that is needed for BG:reloaded)

Already got it when it was on sale some time ago. That reminds me...... I should install it and play it. :P

xenxander: I think Ultima VII is selling so well due to Spoony's review.
avatar
zlep: Ultima 7 would sell well in any case, cos it's a great game.

Now Ultima 8 and Ultima 9 - the reason *they* sell is because of Spoony's reviews. Everyone wants to see for themselves just how bad it gets. :-)
Hmmm you 'might' be on to something there.

However I 'do' feel that "The Black Gate' was sorta the beginning of the downfall. Just my opinion, you don't have to agree.

How would you rate Expeditions: Conquistador out of 100?
