tinyE: Forget the AV, how does your company feel about you playing games on their system?

When I worked for B&N I would have been instantly fired for putting Solitaire on one of their computers.

As for the AV, it's a false positive. Trust me.
Thanks for the advice!... so far nobody told me anything...but I am going to unistall it :)

Mortius1: Assuming Microsoft and Sophos are using the same terminology, callercheck isn't a virus/worm/trojan.

It is a security vulnerability that other malicious software can take advantage of. I can't speak for Layers of Fear, but I'd expect that much of GOG's back catalogue is subject to potential security vulnerabilities, because few companies take the trouble to patch 20 year old games.

I'm not sure there is much that can be done.

1. You don't have administrative privileges to whitelist it.
2. Anti virus companies do their best to clamp down on workarounds to bypass their blocking, on the grounds that viruses would always take advantage of it.

Like the parent poster said, if your company has gone to the trouble of locking down your PC to prevent misuse, they may not be too happy with arbitrary games.
Thank you very much!...as I said I before..I will proceed unstailing it....

darthspudius: Sounds like you need to stop installing games on on your works computers.
yes... it sounds very much like that...

TheBigCore: In many companies, doing this is grounds for termination. You should be lucky you're still employed.

vv221: In other companies, including the one I work at, we’re suspicious of people *not* having games on their computers ;)
Breaks are usually spent by my colleagues playing multiplayer games, using of course their work computers.

Too bad I’m not really into multiplayer, especially not competititve games like they seem to favour…
good...sounds like a good company!

MiguelDom: What do I do?... since I am not the owner of the computer :) ... it is my company... I have limited access to the sophos setup...

Oddeus: Simple, go to your boss and complain about it. Ask him to give you full access to all security systems. And don´t forget to ask him for a raise and maybe a few more games to play.
mmm I should.. I have sold for the company 3 big contracts only in july ;) quite an achievement..

MiguelDom: Hello,

I can´t run layers of fear, because my sophos antivirus does't allow the vulnerability CallerCheck from Layers Of Fear.exe

What do I do?... since I am not the owner of the computer :) ... it is my company... I have limited access to the sophos setup...

Thank you very much.,

fr33kSh0w2012: Why don't you ask your boss, I'm sure he will allow you to do that, PMSL.
i am not quite sure... :)))

Damn I love my current job. It is a small company (like 9 people, including the bosses/owners of the company) and I completely administer my work PC, and others don't really care (and monitor) what I install on it as long as I use common sense, like:

- no pirated software (because the company could get in a trouble then)
- no software which is free only for personal use (and not corporate use; same as above)
- no malware

So yeah, I am happy to install some GOG games and Steam games on it. No one cares as long as I do my job.

And it works both ways. Just last week I figured out how to set up VPN and a remote desktop connection from my home computer, even when using Linux (I use openfortivpn for a VPN client, and Remmina for RPD). So now I don't even need my work (Windows 10) laptop anymore to do my work, I can just as well do it with my own gaming laptop, using Linux. In fact if I am at home and need to to some task for my work, I prefer doing it from that Linux laptop.

But yeah, my earlier workplace, which was in a bank, there it was very strict.
