catpower1980: Steam Guard is already enough for an "entertainment" account (using hardware configuration detection and such)

JMich: Woot? Steam Guard is cookie based, with all that entails. No hardware configuration check or anything like that.
Oh well, that's possible :o) I'm so used of having to re-activate some licences for professional softwares when I make a change (like upgrading to Win10 recently) that I mix up things..... ^o^

At least, just sending an e-mail to confirm account changes is way safer than GOG account security :o)

amok: There is no point at all. It is a collectible thing, and like most collections of anything there is no other point than in the collection itself. Some of the cards are quite nice, though, and some developers use them to showcase concept art and such. Some I would like to draw attention to is the cards for Tower of Gun, where the developer explains the reason by each, and the art work for Defense Grid - pop art at its best. So apart from this, yes - there is no point.
Yup, they're a nice collectible. Some are pretty. No real point, but I get a nice, fuzzy feeling similar to the one I feel when I buy dirt cheap a GOG game that I just know will never get to the "actual play surface" of my backlog. Or with all those bonus, soundtracks and avatars that I probably will never even download, but still want to get with my GOG games ^^
Well, escrow's now confirmed, nice.

Avoid trade holds

Starting Dec 9, anyone losing items in a trade will need to have a Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator enabled on their account for at least 7 days. Otherwise, to protect against unauthorized trades, items will be held by Steam for up to 3 days before delivery. Read the FAQ

What is a trade hold?

A trade hold is a period of time where the items traded are held by Steam before they are delivered.

Why are trade holds necessary?

Trade holds protect your items. Because Steam accounts are valuable, especially if they have items worth stealing. If you haven't protected your account with a physical device (using the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator), a trade hold will give you time to discover your account has been compromised and to prevent items from leaving your account.

How does it work?

If a user trading away items hasn't had their account protected by a Mobile Authenticator for the past 7 days, items delivery will be delayed by Steam for up to 3 days. This provides the user time to cancel the trade and any other that are pending.
Cancelling trades that are pending or in a trade hold will begin a trading cooldown on your account to prevent any further unauthorized attempts to trade away items.

How can I remove the need for a trade hold?

Using a Mobile Authenticator ensures that you and only you can trade away your items quickly and securely, so trade holds are no longer necessary. Increase your account security by getting the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator for iOS and Android devices.

QuickyPixel: I don't use paypal that often so I can't speak to that, but don't they have some protective measures against scamming? Hence why they don't need a mobile authenticator.

catpower1980: I don't remember how was the validation process for private paypal account as I opened mine many years ago but for the business one, it's really quite strict. In itself, Steam Guard is already enough for an "entertainment" account (using hardware configuration detection and such) and in worst case scenario (getting hacked), you still have your bank/creditcard transactions with steam to prove the account ownership. In that aspect the recent (six months ago) 5$ fee to be able to "level up" can be seen more as a security measure than a way to prevent bot accounts.
I guess that in the end I don't really care about the authentication thing on steam, since I almost never trade or anything like that. I just stockpile cards and I am not really interested in trading my items.
I don't have a mobile phone, very annoying how it keeps asking me to give one
Steam is just getting more and more annoying. I am almost at the breaking point* when I shall forget Steam and start buying games, unavailable on GOG, from materialized game shops. More expensive, smaller variety but it gives SO much joy! And no Steam guards telling me what to do.

* I shall break after the current sale ends.

P1na: All I know is, recently I started collecting some cards because monopoly money. And then chatting with a friend, we thought of trading some duplicates we had. The verification stuff was so annoying that we just gave up on it. Maybe because none of us wanted to give steam our phone number?

shadowknight2814: Is there some sort of benefit to having these cards? Seriously, I'm aware you get them like achievements can can trade them, but what's the actual point?
Other than getting more friends slots & steam profile display options, the only real(?) use would be you can sell the cards that drop whilst you`ve played a game & sell them, thus putting it towards a discount for another game.

I`ve bought a few games this way & not paid a penny IRL.
