tinyE: Anyone ever try growing asparagus? Specifically you GR00T because you come off as kind of an expert here.
No, actually, I've not tried that. Interestingly, i recently saw a program on tv about vegetables and it seems there are a number of places in Ontario where it grows wild. If it didn't mean a five hour plane ride, I'd be all over that...

GR00T: Just picked the berries in the attached pic. This is the third round of berries we've picked this season and it looks like we'll have as many again in a couple days.

zeogold: ....were you inspired to post this by our recent Beatles exchange?
Heh, no, completely coincidental. I happened to pick those today and when I got inside with them, i thought "Wow, these are beautiful berries" and decided to show them off. :)
I have a blackberry bush, myself. It's very small though, only got about 5 blackberries out of it this year. I'd consider posting pictures, but normally I eat them too fast for that.

Tauto: My patch is always growing them and it is so easy,I think they would be one of the easiest to grow.
avatar
GR00T: Yeah, we planted ours 4 (maybe 5) years ago and literally don't do anything to them other than pull out the most egregious of the weeds in the patch.
I've been told by an expert idiot, that no one can see my posts because of Jerkmuter. So you won't see my reply and that is weeding and watering are the only thing you need to do for strawberries.
i want to eat all of them *.*

I don't use jerkmuter, so I can see your posts just fine.

They're pretty damned tasty (not that I'm trying to torture you... :P) and what I love about strawberries fresh off the plant is they're red all the way through and don't have that hard, woody texture that they invariably have from the store.

I reside in the middle of a major city with a backyard for a garden.Living in an apartment block must be very ungarden friendly.

You can still have a small garden on a patio.
While those are some nice Strawberries I really don't like their taste.

We're talking about vegetables, not orphans.

Oh and back on topic. You all need to get to Superior and check out Thimbleberries. I don't like them but most people do and they come up with some outlandish shit to do with them. :P

You can't really garden them in the same way you can't garden blueberry bushes. I mean, I guess you could but it's so much easier just to pick wild ones.

Fairfox: Holy noms!

Not strawbs, but I used to pick teh blackberries, like some others. I live in a waaay more urban landscape now, so no more chance of that :(.
I'm in a fairly urban area and there are blackberries all over the place. Pretty much any unsused space has them growing. When they're ripe, you can get buckets of them.

Here's a little anecdote for you (whether it's interesting or not is your call): I grew up on the east coast and the blueberry bushes are low to the ground (basically ground cover), only growing to max height of maybe a foot. I moved out west and didn't recognize what the bushes were for a long time, as they grow about 3 or so feet high.
Mmmmmm Mmmmmmm Groooooood.
My new desktop background is found!!! :D

I'm really curious how you managed to taste his Strawberries.
