And it was pretty good, felt a bit like a fan-film (but with an enormous budget) in parts but overall a fun watch, I liked how the plot echoed the plot of New Hope. Also liked how they seemed to use actual costumes/prosthetic for a lot of the alien creatures, especially that cantina place on the green planet (which was quite a bit like Mos Eisley). It almost felt the film was trying too hard to be nostalgic and please fans of the original trilogy (which is a good thing imo!), with the fact that the main villain and his master echoes Vader and Sidious's relationship etc. A few little things that bothered me;

- I wish that they put subtitles for what the droids/aliens say, yeah I know it's not traditional SW to do that but it's annoying having to guess at what's being said
- Isn't Chewbacca's crossbow thing supposed to shoot green? That's what I remember from Jedi Outcast
- How that "Paul" guy (the pilot at the beginning) survived the crash was complete BS and wasn't believable, should of just kept him dead
- They killed off Han Solo WTF!

I really liked the fact that they used so many practical effects. Unfortunately the script felt more like a first draft, than a finished one. The lightsaber fight was especially contrived. It's almost like, while they were filming the climax of the movie, they realized they needed a lightsaber fight, so they have Kylo Ren fight Finn, but that wasn't enough, so they also have Kylo Ren fight Ren.

Also, I really liked the badass Kylo Ren, until he took his mask off. That was the biggest wtf moment for me, only because I already knew about Han Solo :(.

Yeah they made Ren seem pretty soft tbh, he nearly cracked when he talked to Han Solo and then got beaten by an untrained force-user/Jedi. Not much of a Sith Lord if he can't even talk to someone without crying. His master's training must have been preeety shit

Yeah... the guy froze a BEAM OF LIGHT in the air! But by the end of the movie, he ends up having trouble fighting with Finn, who has only had Stormtrooper training.

For what it's worth, the novelization states that killing Han Solo was affecting his mind and hampered his control of the force (the opposite of what his master had anticipated). Judging from his facial expressions during the fight, I can believe that.

Didn't they do the same thing with the "12 parsecs" line? Where they explained in one of the books, that the course required traversing a route filled with gravity wells , which is why Solo traveling very close to them managed to do it in less than 12 parsecs. It feels like they are trying to plug up the plot holes.

Could be, but due to the number of hints that they left in the movie itself (there's also the fact that he got a friggin bowcaster bolt in the gut), it looks like they're going to follow up on that in the next movie. Besides, it would look awkward in a movie if they just spelled it out while it was happening.

I know I probably look like a blind fanboy trying to justify everything (I'm only a casual Star Wars fan, mind you. I had completely forgot about the 12 parsecs line.)

It's only green in the video games. It was red in Return of the Jedi (even in the Special Editions).

Uh didn't Kylo Ren get shot by Chewbacca, Wouldn't that affects his ability to fight?

It would be cool if that were true, but this is J.J. Abrams we're talking about. The guy has yet to make a movie were the script was decent. All his movies feel like he's making stuff up as he's filming. And wasn't Kylo shot in the leg? At least that's how I remember.

I'm also not a fanboy, it's just that when a movie has ridiculous flaws, I remember them. Which is why, even though I enjoy re-watching the original trilogy, I'll never forget the line. :)

I remember him hitting his leg, but clearly I'm misremembering.

didn't this had its own topic? I remember giving it 5/10 but I can't seem to find the topic now ...
The problem with Star Wars and pretty much every other sci fi show is the general inaccuracy of weaponry....when its advanced space age weaponry?? lol
It's dumb as hell. But then, Star Wars has always been dumb as hell.
First film I saw in years. Total and utter shit. There isn't anything close to a scenario, characters are horrible, and the all of it forms a hideous unintelligible clusterfuck.

Films went to shit 20 years ago, but how can people still watch that ? Don't they read at least once in their life ? Plenty of way to read, watch or play good stories instead of suffering hollywood pain...
