timppu: If you have some 540Hz gaming monitor and are also trying to get 540 frames per second from all your games running at Ultra settings, I am not surprised if your GPU runs hot.
Pretty much what happened with my old lappie here. It runs off trying to achieve excessive levels of FPS (even for small little games), making the fans scream and pushing out all the excess heat, when a much smaller and more modest range was more than enough for enjoyment. So I limit the FPS for each game to around 60 and it's perfectly fine to experience, but that's down to personal choice I guess.

That is one of the reasons why I am fine with the idea of playing all my games at max 60 fps (even with vsync on), and also in "mere" 1920x1080 resolution. That is fast and sharp enough for me, and my GPU (nor CPU) doesn't have to run at 130% overdrive all the time.
Same for me. Good enough to be sure.

Also, on flat screens, playing some games that were not really designed for higher resolutions, often they look awful (at least for me).

timppu: What kind of FPS are you getting, or are trying to achieve?
Well Cyberpunk has been the most demanding game so far but even at Ultra it gets just under 60 fps. If I start to turn things up past Ultra like turning on the Ray Tracing... 5 fps. Totally unusable.

Every other game though has performed way past 60 fps and even some at 100 fps. And with the 240hz monitor with G-sync turned on, it looks incredibly smooth. So far, I'm very happy with it.

Thanks for sharing. I want a summer cottage now to bring a laptop to for lazy, sunny-afternoon game playing.

BenKii: So far the computer has ran every game I've thrown at it on Ultra settings very well. However, the CPU seems to frequently get to 100 degrees Celsius on most games. And when it does, the fans sound like a jet landing on an aircraft carrier. Now I ran all these games with stock settings, drivers, and dell bloatware running (i.e. Alienware Command Center). I'm wondering if a clean install of Windows 11 with only the essential drivers installed may make the CPU from getting so hot because I don't think it should be getting that hot. We'll see.

Yeah, I often use 1080p with 60fps on my 6gb VRAM RTX 3060m based-laptop with an AMD laptop-CPU (R5 5600H).

As for software - I use 3rd programs; so use at own risk on that stuff.

For example:
- I use ThrottleStop to turn off Turbo and play w/ clock speeds a bit for my Intel-based CPU's. Not much, but just enough is tweaked to get the heat down. I use it on my older Intel 4720HQ Haswell gaming laptop (with a 4gb VRAM GTX 960m).
- I use Ryzen Controller for my AMD-based CPU to limit literally Degrees Celsius. I often try to keep it at 70-75 degrees Celsius and under. This app's easier to use than say ThrottleStop.

Breja: A while ago I bought the Blade Runner RPG Starter Set. Does that count?
Got it used, but in perfect condition. Fantastic game. I'm really impressed with how well they adapted the setting and themes into a functional, easy to learn and fun RPG. Highly recommended to anyone who is into Blade Runner and/or tabletop RPGs.
I personally love Blade Runner, but none of my friends are into it that I know of, so I'm on the fence. Seems nice if you have a crowd to play with though.

Magnitus: Also, my personal Rust project that used to take like at least 10-20 seconds to compile now does so in about 1-2 second.

dtgreene: I'm also working on a personal Rust project. Though, in my case, it's a game, and part of it is written in Lua. (mlua crate)
It's a game for me too, except with the Bevy framework and no Lua. Seems like making a game in Rust is getting more popular (still not quite in the mainstream, but gaining some momentum).

At this point, the one significant feature that stable Rust is still missing that would be really helpful is generators and coroutines. (Currently, I'm using that in Lus to handle a higher level loop that handles nested menus along with the lower per-frame loop.)

I think there is some work to add scripting (in Lua, maybe Rhai, and possibly others) to Bevy (as an extra crate, not into the core).
I need to buy a laptop. I would be thankful if you could give some advice.

I don´t want to spend too much money, but at the same time I don´t want to buy something low tier. 500 to 750 euros range is the goal. And I´m not a powergamer. The most powerhungry game I´m playing nowadays, is Grim Dawn. The use i will give the laptop will be to surf in the internet, watch movies and play some pointanclicks, CIV4´s, boomershooters and Grim Dawns.

I also was thinking about maybe starting to use linux. But I have no idea.

This computer caught my eye for 750 euros.

Is it overkill? I would like the laptop to have a graphics card. There are laptops with Intel Iris Graphics that are obviously cheaper but I don´t trust the performance they could give.
