First and most importantly I am so glad and thankful for the community here that feels the importance of feedback on late trash like Outer Worlds, Baldur's Gate 3 and similar horrible sinful acts on the game scene.

Thank you all who defend the market with feedback and warn what the content of the games really is, greedy publishers need to eat this.

If you happen to be a business agent of a game publisher remember this:
We are sick and tired of you selling games without real content but with shiny names! We are not dumb here. Take your time to read the reviews to identify your target audience.

It is very obvious the trend lately is to make promo based on old names. This and that person who worked on the gems like Fallout 2 or Planescape: Torment or Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines is also in our team (because were able to buy his whole soul). Our team also has a reputation so you know the product we provide is going to blast you.

No, this is not gonna work anymore. You have hurt our belief enough already. We are going to buy new games with new names that have a decent WRITING in the very first place. Learn from devs of Disco Elysium - that's how to match target audience here.

What are your opinions on this happening?

My opinion? Never trust the "label", judge everything like you knew nothing about it.
That's it, really.

But... the SIN. Can you wash away THE SIN with a demo? Has the demo been blessed by Our Holy Lord of Video games?

The biggest red flags are still
(A) Gwent still exists as a "GOG" product.
(B) The EGS stuff that was unveiled.

The point here is that those names have been completely abused. Someone might think if the latest game is like this what kind of crap are those previous? I do care about this part...

Trying out before buying and being disappointed and annoyed that a cult name is being raped like there's no tomorrow is not something I could be OK about.

so you feel GoG should stay away from those big bucks titles only meant to provide a steady income towards a group of commercial minded entrepreneurs .....

GoG does need its income and needs to provide for the people that ask and vote for those titles too you know?

Not to mention that " They are DRM free "

Maybe you should chill out just a little. The only idea I'm getting is that you're completely hysterical over a couple of games you don't like. There's plenty of people who do like them. Most reviews I've seen were quite positive. Just don't buy them and don't play them.

I get being upset about a franchise you care about being done dirty - I'm a huge Star Trek fan and these days that mostly consists of watching it get ruined - but all this screaming about "rape" and makeing these kind of outraged threads is just silly. And especially in this case. Outer Worlds is a new IP. There is literally no reason to be upset about it more than about any other random game you happen to not like.

And Baldur's Gate 3, not only by all indications is it a good game, but expecting a slavishly faithful sequel to the classic games in 2020 was always ridiculous. D&D itself is not what it was back when the original Baldur's were released. It's a different system, three editions removed from what original BG was absed on, with a new, broader audience. The whole culture of cRPG and tabletop RPGs is in a different place. You may not like it, but don't blame BG 3 for it.

So - chill out. Play something you like.

I honestly believe it is quite possible to make a big title game with very decent writing and content, that's what those lazy cheap publishers should learn to achieve. Or the consumers learn to appreciate or even dislike to form the face of market which is currently flooded with quantity over quality. People these days don't really have to care about how many games they have to choose from, there's too much to spend time into, not money.

I don't know why OP is getting low-rated because their point seems rather obvious to me and I agree with it:

Companies are capitalizing on nostalgia, using the names of classics (or at least personnel that worked on them) to entice people to buy the new games being made. Yet, the new games are lacking in comparison to the classics. So perhaps it is better to support totally novel games like Disco Elysium which arguably offer a better value proposition.

Another point being made here is that when a new game comes out and has been heavily marketed using nostalgia of the classics, if the new game with that marketing is disappointing, then people who haven't played the classics yet might not even bother, since they were disappointed with the newest iteration of that franchise.

Because it's not possible to call a computer game a "horrible sinful act" and not sound like a total blowhard.
I always got on well with one simple rule: 95% of everything is crap. You need to dig through a lot of dirt to find some diamonds.
With that rule in mind one will be much less disappointed.
