Hello guys. First, let me clarify what I meant in the title. I did not make a mistake, I do mean singleplayer hotseat. What I mean by that is: playing a singleplayer game with a friend, taking turns playing the game or dividing parts of the game between the two players. Let me list two examples:

1) The simple variant: I played and completed Need for Speed Carbon with my friend, we took turns, one of us raced, and finished, then the other player. So, just taking turns.

2) The slightly more profound variant: With my friend, I played and completed Rome Total War. My friend was managing the empire, while I was fighting the tactical battles.

With that clarified, I would like you guys to post suggestions of games, no genre specified, which you think are great to play with a friend.

I'm not so sure about this. :P

When I was a kid the original NES came out and a lot of it's games were tailor made to play with your friends. Unfortunately what usually ended up happening was a chance to experience the rush of having an NES controller bounced off your head. :P

Probably Lords of the Realm 2 would work like that too being about the same as the Total War series. I can imagine Heroes can be played in a similar fashion... Actually you could probably let others play parts of any game if you want that... but do you?

How about adventure games where you play more than one character? I'm thinking of stuff like Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. I imagine that it could be fun when one player controls Indiana Jones and the other on Sophia.

That's true. :D So do you have any suggestions for games that could be played like this? I might try Lord of the Realm, that does sound fun. Oh, I didn't make that clear: I don't necessarily want games where you can divide the doings of the game between me and my friend, that's just an option, it could be a game where we both like all the parts of it, and just play one after another. That seems like a very nice suggestion, I might try that with my friend, thank you!

We used to play Dangerous Dave in the Haunted Mansion (though it will work with similar games with lives) in this fashion back in the day. You take turns. One plays till he dies, then the other takes over.
You need a good friend who won't be mad that you just got killed by a zombie before scoring any points. A better friend who'd even suggest that since you died so quickly you might take another turn is an even bigger plus.

Fun days. Too bad that of the group, I'm the only one still playing games :(

As a kid, I used to play the original Prince of Persia with a friend. One of us would control movement, and one would control fighting jumping. In more complex jumps, we'd do the jumping together (through simple-minded understanding that pressing more than one jump button at the same time would make us jump further).

Then my sister came around and ruined it all for us by helping us skip levels (Ctrl+L).

Ah, that is indeed a good idea; I play Donkey Kong with my girlfriend from time to time, although we don't like it that much because the game can't be completed, you only try to get a high score.
Yeah, I understand you, my group of several friends all played games, we're down to two now. :(

Pinball games are fun too. One player controls the left flipper and the other player the right one. It's more difficult than playing alone though

Ah yes, splitting the controls between the two. With my brother, I used to play Alex Kidd in Miracle World in a similar fashion on the Sega Master System.

Damn that sister! :D While that seems primitive, I understand the appeal. However, while I do like pinball games, I very much consider them singleplayer only. But maybe my friend would like that idea. I guess I have to try to find out!

With splitting controls it becomes more of a coop than hotseat. We used to play LHX (the only flight sim game I liked) this way sometimes. One person would be the pilot, while the other deal with weapons and other stuff.

Yeah, I agree, I guess we could call that singleplayer coop. But that's for another thread! :D

The original Soul Edge (first Soul Calibre game) on PS1.

We had collected all but one sword, which needed 3 successful edge master moves to win.
It took me and a mate 4 hours swapping between us both to do that one level.
