Potentially worse is when single player games are turned into multiplayer games. I only know of one example really, Sim City. I still haven't gotten over it. Well, at least Sim City 4 is still awesome!
Welcome to gOg?
I have nearly 2000 games that don't require an internet connection. Keep looking - you'll find something interesting sooner or later. :)
I just miss the days when I was given the option to play a single player game multiplayer if I wanted to and if not I didn't haven't to. Now, it seems, the internet play is being forced on me no matter what I want. I'm the consumer and the game companies need to listen to me and other gamers. After all we're the ones that keep them in business. Just my opinion.

Forgive me, but you are reading the other posts in this thread right? :P
things eventually gets themselves fixed, or so one can believe, since we dont usually live long enough to see it come true

ShadowWalker56: I just find it frustrating that when a new game comes out I can't play it unless I'm always hooked up to the internet.

tinyE: You mean a new 'major label' game.

I say fuck em. They want to be that way, I'll be over here jamming on Terraria.
I was going to mention Terraria, but for the opposite reason: it's the perfect example of single player games you just can't play without Internet. At least I would be completely lost without the wiki.
Sorry, did I misread something? I might have. I'm doing about ten different things at one time.
It seems that the OP is referring to the COD/Arena FPS sort of games. Some games are multiplayer only. Just ignore them. There are plenty of other games without the MP requirement. You can't have them all to your liking.

Maybe I'm not looking in the wrong places but I have yet to find a RPG that doesn't require steam except on GOG.

there are lots of new indie high quality games. most triple A are just interactive movies.

just try Shadowrun or Pillars of Eternity... two modern games, two DRM-free games.

I'll look them up and give them a go. I really need something new. I'm starting to go through withdrawal.
Divinity: Original Sin?

Have you looked back and tried some of the classics available here? New and shiny is all well and good, but there are some fantastic older RPGs in this store that are the absolute foundations of the genre. I know it's not easy to work with some of the old game mechanics but there is a lot of great stuff at gOg.

TheSaint54: have you seen all of the multiplayer arena shooters coming in 2016? Battleborn, Overwatch, etc, are making me believe the industry will continue down this horrible road.

To solidify that feeling one only needs to read the following ariticle that advises the top selling game for 2015 was COD Black Ops III:
A well made multiplayer arena game is fine. Overwatch looks good and has been in production for a while, and will have multiple things to do and multiple characters to become adept at, vs Evolve which had like 6 classes (plus leveling and gating). On the other hand i'd rather have Overwatch with a single person campaign for each character as both a tutorial and as a storyline to show what happened up to the trailer/teaser they put out.

To be truthful, arena shooters and deathmatches have always been fun. Quake, Doom, Duke Nukem, Halo, running around and killing and just having a blast while getting the jump on your opponent. But there has to be variety, either level or weapons or mission objectives; and seeing as Evolve and Battlefront both have effectively 4 maps, that gets dull REAL fast. Imagine playing starcraft with only 4 maps ever available for 2-4 player matches... you'd get bored after a dozen plays because there's no variety except maybe starting position.

As for CoD... Some people only like military shooters and multiplayer games of 64 players killing eachother on a battlefield. I personally distain games that are too realistic, i don't need reminders of my time in the military. Honestly if you are rucking with 50+ pounds of crap on your back, the only thing you want to do is drop it in a ditch and sit down and wait for it all to be over, screw being bored, you'd rather be bored than force march. And carrying the weapon out all the time at the ready just wears your arms out, usually you just wrap the shoulder strap around your hand so the gun hangs there and you just get slight discomfort from your shoulder wanting to pop while you walk.

Damn... now I'm getting salty...

I don't find your account salty at all. Thanks for your service and sorry my reply brought back some tough memories, that was never my intention.

Arena multiplayer shooters have always been my favorite shooter type, I still play UT 2004 and UT 3 often. I doubt any of the new arena shooters will have bots for offline play. If they do you will have to be connected to the internet to play against them... o____O
