Elmofongo: Wow you call yourselves PC gamers yet not one mention of Rainbow Six 3 Raven Shield? Where sometimes the enemy just drops is gun, kneels, and puts his hands on his head.

Crosmando: I'm not really a fan of "realistic" games where there's no element of science-fiction or fantasy, they're just boring. The exception might be Jagged Alliance 2, though that has sci-fi mode if I recall.
Boring.

A game with 1 shot your dead health system, Trying to defuse a bomb while at the same time saving hostages and killin Terrorists in a large sprawling, non-linear map is BORING?!

Socratatus: Swat 4? No one mentioned Swat 4?

Shout `You`re under arrest!" and they sometimes drop their weapons and put their hands up, then you cuff `em. But be careful, sometimes they change their mind and decided to have a go! Love that game.

Pity it`s not on GOG yet.
Pity it may never even see the light of day again.

Unless GOG buys the rights.

Enebias: They scream "mercy, please", but they don't really surrender. They simply run away, then start shooting again when they reach a better position.
Do they act the same when they yell "don't shoot, I'm unarmed"? I can't remember if they actually are when that happens, or if they pull out the gun again like they do with the mercy line.

EDIT: Never mind; the answer is literally seconds into the video I linked. I guess the lying jerks are never really disarmed.

In Skyrim, heavily wounded opponents will beg for mercy and try to get away.
And then, they'll recover in a few seconds, and charge at you again. Every time.

Always thought it was lame that you couldn't really spare an enemy in that game (and in most other games, really)
Cool thread! XD

tinyE: Cool thread! XD
You want to beg for mercy to me? You know, i 've got a *BIG* "pistol"; magnum, it has to be... Do you want to touch my revolver?

Crosmando: Soldier of Fortune and Rise of the Triad, but is there any others?

Also related, are there any shooters/action games where enemies can surrender during fights and you can execute them or not?

JudasIscariot: Well, you can arrest enemies in Judge Dredd VS Death. I don't recall anyone begging for mercy, however.
Because they know Dredd is not the lenient type.

arrjayjee: In Perfect Dark on N64 you can shoot the gun from an enemy's hands and they will ask you not to shoot and try to surrender. Then they would try and pick it up and murder you in the back.
I think goldeneye did this as well.

I "think", because I shot everyone anyhow.

In Goldeneye, enemies didn't drop guns until they died. Which was actually a problem for me when I started playing Perfect Dark because I would see a gun go flying, think the enemy was dead (because enemies only drop their guns when they die) and then one of the "dead guys" would run off and trip an alarm.
I don't know to what degree you could call it a shooter, but in Castle Wolfenstein you can hold up guards and disarm them after they've surrendered.
Does Postal count? :P

Hey. they do beg for mercy, but killing them isn't really an option because it's the only way to advance. XD
In Return to Castle Wolfenstein I'm pretty sure some enemies cower and beg for mercy.

Also, in Judge Dredd vs Death some enemies do surrender if you hit a couple of times.
I think the original Thief they had unarmed npcs cower and run away if you tried attacking... but this wasn't really a shooter (unless you used the projectile weapons.)
Ok, but are there single-player shooters where YOU can beg for mercy from the enemies, if you are low on health and ammo? And then when they turn their back and you regain some health, you attack them again?

I guess in some RPGs (Fallout?) you can talk your way out of situations, but I mean really begging to let you live.

Also in TeamFortress 2 (an online multiplayer shooter) I see some players acting like "Hey don't shoot me, let's dance okay?".

Well, in "Alien vs. Predator"'s alien campaign, unarmed civilians cower and sob in despair when you are standing in front of them waiting... it's rather cruel that you often have to bite their head's off anyway to gain a bloody lot of HP, but that's what those aliens do and you gotta eat something, right?

Hah! Playing No One Lives Forever 2 right now, you can knock out enemies with your stun gun makeup kit, tranquilizer darts, or banana peel, then search and disarm them. When they wake up, they say "who stole my weapon?", then run away and cower. Then after awhile, they find another weapon and start looking for you, so you may as well have killed them to begin with.

(Not really enjoying the stealth aspects of this one, but worth playing. Besides, Cate Archer! This game screams for a modern-hardware continuation...)
Hidden & Dangerous 2 - some enemies surrender if you manage to sneak up on them (and/or scare them by shooting around them), others surrender if they run out of ammo. Apparently it's possible to shoot weapons out of their hands, which may work as well (don't remember managing that myself, will have to reinstall and try it sometime).
