borisburke: My best mate was involved in a car accident and will be convalescing for a while. I'd like to give him access to my game library on the GOG servers. Is sharing your logon a violation?

Note. He's a sensible chap who normally has little time for gaming, and certainly wouldn't pass it on.
If I was in your case, I might do something like this:

I will install a few GOG games from my library to his PC. I will not give him access to my GOG account, nor let him have the installers.

That way I at least partially still retain control of the games (as I have bought the license, not him). I let him play a couple of games of his choosing, but still trying the diminish the possibility he might pass those games (installers etc.) to someone else as well, without my control. (Yes I know many GOG game installations are portable and can be copied, but somehow I feel that still curbs "casual piracy" a bit).

But even that scenario above is in practice still piracy, and not really allowed. Is he totally broke? Can't he buy games himself at all? Why don't you make a GOG account for him so he can buy a few games himself? There are lots of cheap games on GOG as well, and deep sales.

Yep, sharing it would indeed be a violation.
And like others have said, don't share you logon, maybe just the odd game, though still a violation.

Another reason not to share, is that some of your games might have a unique key that you might inadvertently share, Some even have them built into the game for multiplayer. You'd really want to prevent them getting out in the wild, as in leaving home. Once they leave home, you lose control.
Well, seeing as how this how you are asking for advice, the real thing I can tell you is that nobody on this site can tell you what to do but advise you of what you can do. So the real answer is, do what you would like to do. While yes it can be a violation, usually many people do not care and just pass it on like it was not a big deal. (Not advice, just what I saw on a daily basis in the past)

MeowCanuck: +1 WinterSnowfall too. A better solution would be to make him an account and gift him a couple games. Even better would be to visit him and play online MP/coop together to kill time quicker. He'll appreciate it long after he gets better.
or just marry him , then divorce

idbeholdME: Nobody is going to stop you. I treat GOG games the same, as if I've bought them from retail. Meaning I freely lend them to family members or best friends.

Orkhepaj: and you dont play them until they give them back?
I do, as I would with a retail disc.

A lot of disc games don't require the disc to be in the drive to start. I haven't burned (if that is what you mean by "multiply") a DVD in more than probably a decade. Modify? Yeah, when the game requires a disc in the drive, I download the crack anyway, so as not to needlessly wear it out.

I've been lending boxed games to people (be it nuclear family, friends at school or a cousin) long before GOG even existed. These days, there is pretty much only one person I occasionally provide games to (everyone else stopped gaming). And it is exactly because GOG allows me to treat the games I buy here as boxed games that I started buying digital games in the first place. Before GOG, I hadn't bought a single digital game on Steam or any other DRM'd platform.

Thanks for your opinion's everyone.

He rather sweetly turned me down and said any extra time he has, he would rather spend with his wife. So, problem solved ^_^

I loaned him my car until he can get the insurance sorted.

Per our User Agreement, sharing GOG accounts is not allowed, so I hope you understand that we cannot really allow a discussion on how to share a GOG account on our forum. I see it has been stated before and the thread has been exhausted, so I'll lock it now.
