I downloaded Shadow of war from the heroic game launcher on steam deck. But I cant even get the game to launch no matter the proton or wine. I know the game works because its verified on steam from steam. But idk why it wont launch. Any tips?

This is easy: you should have bought it from GOG!

I did :(
... and maybe an Aya Neo instead of a Steam Deck.

But really .. "won't work" is something for a Steam Deck or Heroic Launcher forum. Those guys know better then us how to get informations out of your nose about what does fail, what the logs say or what error message you get.

Maybe the launcher is unable to install it correctly?
Sorry then. I thought you meant that you had bought it from steam.
I posted on the steam and steam deck forum already. They said come here or use wine/ proton which I tried. Maybe I need to try re-installing it a 3rd time

I see. Maybe there are some Heroic Launcher users who know something. Good luck.

In any case it would be a good start to check the launcher logs.

As much as I love GOG, with a Steam deck you are definitly better off if you buy games from Steam, then you don't have to fiddle with installers and such stuff.

I'm about to just install windows on it and b done with the hassle
You can also try to copy the installed Windows version over to the Steam deck.
If it's not about runtimes that don't get installed, that should work for all compatible games.

I'm using gog galaxy launcher. But I can only launch it in desktop mode. But I launch it in steam so hopefully the proton I use to start gog galaxy also uses that same proton to run the game. If this doesnt work I will try to add the game directly to steam from heroic again I figured out how to do ot but I have to re download the game in heroic then set up the correct paths. Wish me luck since I'm not computer knowledgeable

Great that you got it working :)

Anyway, I don't use Galaxy or Heroic at all, just download the offline installer from the GOG website. It's a bit tricky to install the games manually but worth it to have zero clutter on the already limited Steam Deck. Maybe worth considering in the future if you don't install a lot of games at the same time.

It's ok I already got the galaxy launcher working so I can buy and download any gog game without worrying. I always install and download everything into my ssd. And then I dedicate most my internal storage to resize my swap file
