The GOG version has minimum system requirements of 512MB RAM and 2GB HDD space while the steam version has them at 1GB RAM and 650MB HDD space. Both are titled Seven Kingdoms 2 HD and are by the same developer. Does anyone who own this know if there is any difference between the versions and if whether one is superior to the other? Some older steam threads mention that the pathfinding and stuff is bad in the HD version and in that case, is the original game(that comes with the GOG version) better?

The predecessor to this game seems to have gone GPL.

I checked the steam forum and the GOG forum and both of them are dead and the game seems quite interesting.

Thanks for any info and sorry about the game specific thread!

According to internet especially PCGamingWiki, GOG version is superior for the simple fact it incluedes the original game, besides that it the same version.

If by the original game you mean the original Seven Kingdoms it has long been released as freeware as the OP alluded to:

Aside from that, the original game is arguably the best version of all.

Seven Kingdoms 2 was an unbalanced disappointment. The original didn't scale well at all but still has charm.

GOG is fond of "giving away" games that are already free.

Buy any Bethesda game and you will "get Arena and Daggerfall free"

No matter that they are already free

No no, I mean the original Seven Kingdom 2.
Oh ok

I guess the GOG version is more complete then...

I would still check out the original first. I would love to see the manual for 7K2 to see if they fixed it - the original manual was copied from 7K/7K:Ancient Adversaries and was horribly wrong and obviously referring to the wrong game in so many places. The same attention to detail sadly exists in the game itself. The base concepts remain pretty cool though.

Indeed, PCGW seems to be silent on the other versions : https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Seven_Kingdoms_2_HD and the state of the original Seven Kingdoms 2 doesn't seem to be detailed more than the fact that its bundled together with this HD version.

Would you say the original 7K+expansion is better than the sequel+HD available now?

Still, I would love to see it open-sourced as well and get native ports to other OSes. The sequel has a charm of its own and introduces unique mechanics that are still fun, though, as you've pointed out, not exactly well balanced. I loved playing it, anyway, and consider it a fun strategy game.

I wasn't aware of the remake so I couldn't say for sure. They are definitely different.
