3. Enter email address.
4. Look if a username shows up.
Oooohhh... I don't remember ever using that. However, I do remember a lot of threads created on the forum by people wanted to be added to friends list. We do not want more of that, so I suppose that GOG could provide a GLOMAR response to those inquiries: "We can neither confirm nor deny that such email address is registered on GOG. However, should it be, it was notified of your request."
But we shouldn't wait for GOG to act, should we? So
we better do something about it.
You may go around this issue by providing GOG with an alternate email address. No, I don't mean using an email address just for GOG.
If you use a GMail address you can add a dot or an underline in the first part of it and GMail will still deliver it to the same account with no problem. Or you could switch a dot for an underline and vice-versa and it still works! Try it and see.
All email addressed to
toxic_tom@gmail.com or to
toxic.tom@gmail.com or to
toxictom@gmail.com get delivered to
the same address (that is why GMail won't let you register the variant addresses).
Another trick that works on GMail, but also works on several other email providers: change your GOG email address from
toxictom@provider.com to
toxictom+gaming@provider.com. Not all places allow you to provide an email address with a "+" on it (they all should, it is a legal character since RFC 822, written in 1982), but GOG does allow it. Test your email server and see if you get the message, and if yes, just update your GOG account information.
Either method will shielded you from snooping since email queries for your regular address will now return blank, and you will still get all messages sent by GOG.
NOTE: you are sont able to used alternative email addresses to
send email, just to receive it.
