Hi,

I saw that on Steam, there is a bundle of SEGA Megadrive Classics.
I also read that this is the easiest way to legally but Megadrive roms which can be used in an emulator.

Is there any chance that the same - or comparable - bundle comes in GOG ?

I’m new to PC Gaming and have decided to use GOG as platform (because it’s Digital Restrictions Management free) and would prefer to stick to only one.

D.

Non. The closest thing that GOG even has to console games is that SNK and a few others game a few arcade games.

No organized bundles or such.

There is always a chance that a game bundle available on Steam become available on GOG. But it could take a while it may also never happen since SEGA is not very fond of DRM-free approach at the moment. So the best answer to your question would be "maybe".

Thanks for your quick reply.

I see another option: buying the PC physical version. But first I have to check if the rom files can just be copied/pasted from the physical media using a file explorer.

You're an optimist. I would never believe GOG could bring SNK here. Now I don't know what to expect, we have Capcom with Street Fighter Alpha 2 (almost unplayable but still) and Square Enix (mostly Eidos but still), so who knows what comes next.

But the rom files you get from Steam are apparently DRM free and can be used in any emulator.
That’s why I think it could come to GOG...

Edit :
Street Fighter A 2 is unplayable ??

Correct. Still companies treat Steam as a safe guard for their games. And the hardest part is to convince big Japanese multinational company such as SEGA to deal with GOG which is not so big in comparison with Steam.

I read the reviews about controlling issues and improper frame data. Then I installed it myself and ready my DualShock4 with 3rd party software to emulate normal joystick just in case. The problem was that I couldn't play it other than on my keyboard and key bindind was a pain. So I dropped a game for a time being.

Probably not. I am of the impression that GOG isn't hungry enough to fight seriously.

SEGA Classics was available on DotEmu for some time, perhaps GOG will not have to fight SEGA.
(imagining GOG yakuza storming SEGA offices with guns and katanas)
So I had some reading and if I understand well, the SEGA Genesis which is on steam is basically the 5 CDs SEGA released on CD.

With Steam, the roms are uncompressed and directly accessible for use in another emu.
With the CD, they come as .pak (without encryption) files which need to be extracted.

Is my understanding correct ?

If so, the important question since I’m looking to get a legal copy of the roms: would unpacking the .pak be considered « circumventing DRM » ?

Too bad GOG does not sell all Neo Geo as a bundle. :-(
Has anyone played that Sega Bundle?
How is it?

Some of those packages are awful. They're MegaMan set is a buggy mess that looks and sounds atrocious.

I played into some of the games...it's ok.
I probably wouldn't want to play full price, but in a sale I would absolutely recommend getting it.
(though for the amount of games included - it's really not bad!)

EDIT: if you own a Switch, this may be also interesting for you:

The Mega Man collections comes from Capcom. I own them on multiple consoles and they play well enough, but I haven't tried the Steam versions. Are all of the collections bad (Classic 1&2, and X 1&2), or just one out of the bunch?
