GOGuser736: Unless that's what they were all along.
Well, I've known a number of people from this "camp" who meant well but radicalized over time... and I sincerely believe they didn't notice the moment they stepped into the "dark side." But that's radicalization for you... that level of zealotry often blinds a person to the truth, even of their own actions.

If Luke Skywalker would have given over to his hatred... he'd fit right in

Canuck_Cat: I never played or cared for FNAF because of all the jumpscares
And the setup was stupid... How is having the door locked/shut equate to using power?

Well he probably had his fill of making them i bet.

As for the "games", they were always just streamer reaction fodder and nothing else. But the reason he left... can't be commented on without violating the rules here, so I will refrain...

Arch covered it and pointed out the pure idiocy, for anyone interested:

kai2: I'm continually amazed that those promoting "cancel culture" don't understand that they have in fact become that which they fought.
Hypocrisy is their main weapon. And it should be pointed out whenever possible just how completely inverse their logic is.

The political persecution - what else can you call it when more and more people are loosing their jobs over their political opinions - is the big issue here.

If you don't like a developer's personal opinions, then don't buy his/her games. That's how normal people react. Not that their personal opinions was a big issue in the past.

So now we are going to seperate all developers according to their political opinions, that's where we are heading now. I'm sure Kotaku, Polygon and their trashy cohorts would revel in dividing the gaming community even more, for their own benefits. I'm sure they are already making lists of developers to be harassed and games to be sabotaged, just like FNAF, and Kingdom Come before that, and Witcher 3 before that, ...

Maybe the next thing for developers is to do what writers do, writing books under different pen names or pseudonyms, or maybe just keep your name secret behind a business/company name.

I haven't played his games, not my thing, but some of the youtube streamers I follow have, and I thought the games were very innovative, that's partly how they got so popular. He created something unique and did it really well, as opposed to the myriad of other Indie horror games on Steam.

Darvond: This quasi-horror series is getting handed off to who knows, but will it mean the end of his riches? Who knows!

Do you have any particular thoughts towards the series, his retirement, or otherwise?
No, not really. I have no idea what "FNAF" is or who this Scott Cawthon is.

EDIT: Ok FNAF is apparently "Five Nights at Freddy's", but then I am not 100% sure what game (series) that is. I may have heard about some mobile game with that name, some oddball horror game?

At least GOG doesn't seem to carry such game.

Retiring to avoid cancel culture. Good for him and I hope he has a good life. Those games are not for me, I think they're bollocks BUT much respect for milking the crowd for every penny and likely becoming very rich from it. He can also donate to whichever political party he wants. All power to him. \m/

TL;DR: Imagine a jack in the box, as a video game. And all the fun is in the tension of the winding while that annoying ditty plays. The Popscare of Popscare games.

On one hand, I despise the cancel culture losers who think they are making the world a better place to live by ceasing productivity of creators and artists that actually make things people love, while having nothing to contribute themselves. On the otherhand. Scott should have had a spine, rose up above the petulant internet threats from sad losers; and continued creating things people enjoy.

At the end of the day he would have won. The people who attacked him were not his community, they literally only enjoy attacking people and back patting eachother with no persona outside of their internet bubbles. It unfortunate he caved and send the message that blue hair whales screaming online can make an impact without doing something productive. Scott is a coward and deserves no respect. Money or not, he is forever a loser in the eyes of everyone now.

I think even the whales were surprised at how easily and quickly he folded. They hadn't even started attacking him in a serious way.

Maybe he wants to be a martyr, or maybe he thinks this poisonous movement will go away in a year sr so, just in time for him to waltz in and do a comeback.

It's quite clear the people who have a problem with him are not the people who actually buy and play his games, his true audience. They don't care what his opinions are, they just want their horror game. So it's a shame he didn't stand up for himself since he had the backing of his buyers.

Isn't he married and has a kid on the way? If so maybe he was like ''screw this I have more important stuff to deal with and I don't wanna risk my family over this '' and thus left .. Which if that was the case I understand why he did so even though I am unsure if backing down in this case was wise or not

Yeah, from that perspective I can understand it, that he doesn't want to deal with all the negativity, right now anyway.

Of course it is lol. Why not? If you're gullible enough to fall for it, he should be allowed to make the best of it.
