karnak1: Not trying to brag here, but since I only buy games on GOG and have 1400+ games on my library, I'm already doing my share. Specially since I've more games than I could ever hope to play in my life and I'm only buying games to support the store (and DRM-free publishers) now.... If you're one of those people who supports GOG and DRM-free, then I personally thank you!
Hear hear, though even GOG
has its downsides now (that's my justification for only buying during sales).
StingingVelvet: We can fight against stuff like the silly Denuvo kernel on Doom Eternal though, and win. It's a small comfort but I'll take it.
There have been a few others too - Atari removed SecuROM from Neverwinter Nights 2 following a
massive petition thread in the final update (the official reason was SecuROM causing BSODs on test systems but the petition provided additional justification). Larian
removed their online check also following user feedback. That backlash also seemed likely to have persuaded Bioware not to include a disc check on Dragon Age Origins, though they did start down the online activation route instead (imposed on DA:O DLC at first, and then more generally, presumably seeing the relative lack of protest as justification).
StingingVelvet: "As of X day this year we are switching fully to a streaming model, but don't worry. You still own all your games and can stream them whenever you like! Except the ones we no longer have the rights to distribute of course."
"And thanks to your undying support (if you do die, we still keep your card details...) we'll be able to better support the games industry! We pledge 20% of your fees will go towards funding what we think looks cool and we'll only keep 80% for coke, hookers and wild parties - whoops - shareholder dividends.
And just to show that Steam is better than ever we're including free access to some of the hottest game titles from yesteryear. Yes, Tic-Tac-Toe, Battleships *and* Simple Simon will now be included with every Steam account FREE!"
