So I have been looking for a game set in Feudal Japan after playing through the Witcher 3 recently. After searching online, I cannot seem to locate anything! I have a ton of the action games on PS2 (Okami, Onimusha, Genji, Shinobi, etc.) but I want something that is a bit more serious.

I have found the Way of The Samurai titles, but those are more action based. Any other recommendations?

Edit: Wow, thanks for all of the suggestions! I will totally take a look at some of these, as I am sure something will scratch that itch.

Ghosts of Tsushima looks amazing, and can't wait for an official release date. Throne of Darkness is a game I completely forgot about. Some of the other games sound familiar, and I will start searching for videos of them online.

Not all RPG but there are notably the renowned series Dynasty Warriors (musou) and Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Yakuza Ishin (ps3 / ps4). Nioh. For RPG there is one on SNES i recall named Inindo : Way of the Ninja.

Now when you say RPG, do you mean the fun kind where it's you and 3-6 others or the unfun kind where you're actually managing armies, grains of rice, and wait, Destiny of an Emperor is a Three Kingdoms game, nevermind.

Throne of Darkness, but it's an action-oriented Diablo clone.

There are also a few shorter modules for Neverwinter Nights, although I can't say if they're any good:
tagged with "Oriental setting"
tagged with "Feudal Japan"
tagged with "Samurai Tale"

And modules for Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures (included in Forgotten Realms: The Archives - Collection Two),
as listed here, on the right, under "Oriental Adventures".
Instructions on how to play them here.
I realize I forgot to mention the OA Worldhack in that post, but you can get it here,
readme here,
and if you've learnt how to setup the basic FRUA, you should be able to setup OAUA without problems as well. Here's some more info about it.

(Sorry for the many line breaks, but sadly they're necessary to prevent GOG's forum software from freaking out and creating a mess.)

These are teh best of what I've played...

Yakuza Ishin! (PS4, PS3)

Yakuza Kenzan (PS3)

Way of the Samurai 1 - 4 (limited RPG elements)

Gekokujo (Mount & Blade Warband mod)
For gekokujo I recommend gekokujo 3.1 with Sugoroku mod 3.1. You might want to read up on that, and there may be a small fix file for castle sieges. I've never had any issues but you need to know you've got everything, otherwise discovering an error in mid game will be annoying. Not sure about the castle siege fix file really but I haven't had issues.

That's more China than Japan.

Okay, well I'm a racist.

shiiiiit. I seriously feel like the world's biggest asshole right now.
There's Sengoku Rance by Alicesoft. Be warned it's a hentai game (Japanese game with sex). The gameplay is spot on and there is a pure strategic mode without sex scenes. It also has one of the best final boss songs I've ever heard (Rebirth the Edge).

Manga Gamer is releasing an official English translation soon - the unofficial one has been around a while.

Well, on the off-chance the OP doesn't mind either way, Tale of Wuxia is a Chinese RPG from 2016. Some people are fanatical about this game. It's one of those clunkers with character, an unbalanced barely-working hilariously translated mess might just worm its way into your heart.
Sad thing is that there are few samurai RPGs -- mainly action games and grand strategy games. I purchased a few on PS3 from Japan but all of them are in the Way of the Samurai vein.

A game that will release next year on PS4 / PS5 is Ghost of Tsushima. Beautiful game but probably action with light RPG elements.

You're probably best with the "special" Yakuza titles, but they haven't been localized and can be a pain to play if you don't know Japanese.

Not an RPG -- stealth a la Commandos -- but worth playing if you like medieval Japan... Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun
There is an old game made for PC-98 (so entirely in japanese), named Yoshitsune, after Minamoto no Yoshitsune, and obviously is set during the Genpei War (1180–1185).
It was a game advertised as Simulation and Adventure, I believe it's an Adventure-RPG with choices and tactical combat (wargame-like).

Here its dedicated webpage in the website NEC PC-9801: Database (Refuge Tokyo)
Most rpg's are actionbased, you don't call your gamegenre after a rocketlauncher if you don't want explosions.

Throne of Darkness
Titan Quest (I think the last part is in Japan but I haven't played it that far)

If you want slower based games I would look for strategy games like
Sword of the Samurai or Total War Shogun series and there are many more.
