I couldn't see a turn-based category on Gog unfortunately - does anyone know any retro (cheap) multiplayer games which are turn-based? Thinking of anything in the same vein as Twilight Struggle (2+ players)

Here is the category for turn-based multiplayer game.

Perhaps Age of Civilizations II close enough to Twilight Struggle ?

No idea how much it costs now.

Edit: I've mistakenly thought Twilight Struggle was a Fantasy TBS. I'll keep my list in case anyone is interested. The only board-like game I seem to recall on GOG is Trough the Ages, not cheap nor old but on my interest list.

Battle for Wesnoth not available on GOG but is free (in both ways) and open source. Great classic game!

Age of Wonders Shadow Magic do have multiplayer but you need friends as I think it doesn't have "rooms".

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is probably the same as AoW, only direct IP connections multiplayer.

Roller Coaster Tycoon I've played a little OpenRCT2 quite a while ago and was able to find a lot of active "rooms".

Worms Armageddon or the free and open source version Hedgewars. Hedgewars usually have lots of active rooms but keep in mind you'll be competing agains't some very hardcore players!!!

Civilization and Colonization games or the free counterparts Freeciv and Freecol.

SteamWorld Heist, very nice game with colorfull graphics somewhat reminder of quality mobile games.

Into the Breach Not multiplayer but I have to mention this one as I can't stop playing it :D

That was my first thought as well, especially since it's on sale and on my wishlist, but it apparently does not support multi-player. Galaxy Trucker, by the same people, does, though, but I haven't looked at the multi-player aspect as I am not interested. Not in any way civ-like, though.

To the "Age of Civilizations" recommendation I'd add Alpha Centauri and Civilization 3, both of which are actually old and cheap here. None of these are really like board games, though.

I would not recommend AoW3 because it requires an account for on-line multi-player (and is impossible to reasonably use saves for PBEM), but AoW1-2 are fine. Also, I don't think SteamWorld Heist is multi-player.

While we're recommending free/open source games, I'll mention triplea, a game originally based on my favorite board game of all time.
