As usual, the speedrunners are already playing it intensively.

If you don't mind the spoilers, it's interesting to watch as you get a good overview of the whole game and how this episode feels much different than the survival-horror era or the TPS-action era, almost like a reboot.

Speed runners are sad people. Play and enjoy the game, don't rush through it.

If they're playing a game for the first time, and rushing through just for bragging rights, then yeah, I'm tempted to agree. Most "professional" speedrunners do it because they love certain games though, and naturally have already completed them many times. Many also participate in charity events. Nothing sad about it, they're just taking video gaming to rather extreme levels. ( But then, so do all competitive gamers/ e-sport gamers. )

And to be fair, the Resident Evil series was always speedrunner friendly, and many unlockable items required you to beat the games within a few hours.
Speedrunners can pull off some ridiculous trickery and find some hilarious exploits. Always fun to watch them. Not shocking someone did this, RE always attracted runners.

In the Nintendo DS version of Resident Evil 1, you gain the rocket launcher if you complete the game under 3 hours.

Pffffffffffffffffft.
Wow. Record time. Amazing. As for me, I like puttering around exploring whatever I can. If it takes them 90 minutes, it may take me 5 months! I guess i would be dead weight to them! Oh look....something shiny!!! :)

I think what's saddest are people who think a game being speedrun quickly makes it worse of a game or an insult against the game itself. Some of the best games ever made can be speedrun is ridiculously short time spans if you know what you're doing.

Speed running is the best way to waste all the fun in a game.

This run was almost certainly *not* the player's first playthrough of the game. Speedrunners actually play through the game (usually multiple times) and study them intensively before doing serious speedruns. Typically, the total time a speedrunner spends on a game is far greater than the time a casual player would spend on said game.

Therefore, I wouldn't call this rushing through the game, as the speedrun is generally the result of more hours of work than a single casual 100% playthrough would take.

It's also worth noting that new things are discovered in games decades after their original release. I believe that somebody just found a new Rainbow Coin in Donkey Kong 64 (a 17 year old game), for example.

Do you honestly think that a speedrunner hasn't already played the game many times before?

Some of them play it for the first time as a speed run. I know someone who plays all his new FPS games in speed run, just to beat his friends in a friendly competition ^^
"Seriously? THAT fast? I heard it took five d-- oh, I see what you mean."

you could say the same for "profesional" reviewers but take the professional and passion out!
