Hello.

Im using a forum thread before creating a Community Wishlist entry because I want to know if anybody else around the Forum (therefore, at least in thesis, the avid GOG users that love the company and want it to succeed.) agrees and would also want other payment options.

Paypal is probably one of the best digital payment platform of the last decade and I've also been using it for a while until recently they made some weird changes to their terms of use which I do not accept - thus Im not using it anymore.

So I've found Wise Platform when searching other online payment services.

https://platform.wise.com/
https://wise.com/

To the users: Have you heard of this platform before? If yes, do you recommend it?
To the moderators: Would it be possible to add other online payment services to the store? Also, if I did something wrong on this thread, please let me know.
I don't know if we are still able to post links to this kind of service here.

Why not try to explain what you see as the advantages of Wise, over other payment platforms?

Also, why Wise instead of something more libre, such as Taler, Open Collective, Bubble, Knit Pay, or Subscribe, which are all open source payment processors* (AFAICT), solving the problem that all you've done is gone from one closed source payment processor to another who may be pressured by outside forces or internal management to simply slam the door just as Paypal had.

Though, honestly being up in arms over a terms of service change more strikes of petty paranoia to me; rarely enforceable and often leads to loaded questions such as, "What are you worried about/doing that you're objecting to a change in the terms?"

*Well, you know. Of the ones that deal in actual legal tender, and not the vapid mess that is cryptocurrency.

I never said Wise have advantages over other payment platforms. It doesn't seem to be better than paypal either, but their terms seems acceptable for now. Suggested that one as it seems big enough to cover many contries, therefore, acceptable as a good platform for GOG users because we are, well, all over the world.

Simply because I never heard of any of those. :P
And I believe you're right, makes sense actually.

Well, if the last situation involving Paypal recently doesn't worry you, when as you stated, Libre alternatives are better (which I agree) then:

1. You don't know what happened with Paypal recently;

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-01-13/paypal-sued-for-freezing-customer-accounts-without-explanation
https://www.engadget.com/paypal-lawsuit-freezing-customer-accounts-funds-073128563.html

I've used paypal gladly for years and this never happened to me, but in any way, I don't want this kind of risk.
Am I wrong?

2. You know but don't think anything worse will happen which doesn't make sense in my humble opinion because you seem to be someone who also share a Libre mentality.

Thanks for the recomendations anyway, I will check them!

---edit:

Is it possible for GOG to add other online payment services that do the same thing as paypal?

Is it possible? Sure. Will GOG get around to doing that by 2525 AD? Who knows.

Well.. as only you answered anything I will assume (probably wrongly) that there is no interest in the community for another new online payment option too.

Oh, it's not that there's no interest in new payment processors, but more that I'm not sure there's actually staff around outside of two to maintain and improve the website. They've been looking for PHP devs for over a year now.

There may be interest from some users, but most people are able to find one method out of the many provided that works for them.

From my side, I have zero interest in a new payment option as I'm quite happy to continue to use my credit card which has worked fine for the c14 years I've been here.
