Zoidberg: Now, does it have control rebinding?
avatar
LittleH: You can rebind controls for mouse and keyboard. You can't rebind buttons on controllers yet but we might add it if it's a feature that many people ask for.
Cool, that's great you worked on this sorely missed feature! Thanks! :)

Acriz: Why does the chopped off hand change from picture to picture? In one it's the right hand that's gone, in the other it's the left one. Please don't tell me they just flipped the entire sprite for movement in the opposite direction.... yep that's what they did. I am offended that in 2021 some devs still try to sell me such a cheap way of animating sprites.

LittleH: Hello Acriz, I'm actually the animator for Yaga :).

The decision to flip the character for the side views was made because of a bunch of different reasons, but mostly because it is economic. We're a small indie development team and we had to cut corners in a couple of places. The main character has around 80-90 animations that had to be done in side-view, facing up and facing down, and this already implied a lot of drawing and animating. We also avoided some complications on the programming side, but I'm not going to get into that.

A surprising number of people (nothing major, but definitely more than I expected) complained about this. I've seen it done a lot in games I love and it never bothered me, but I understand why it irks some people. I also think it's made more obvious by the fact that our character is asymmetrical, which is something we overlooked.

What I'm trying to say is, I'm sorry if you think this was done because we were cheap or anything like that. Trust me, I would have loved to have animations for both sides, but it just wasn't feasible. I would definitely do it differently if I had the chance.

Thanks for checking the game out anyway, and input is always useful, if not for Yaga then at least for future projects.
The presence of devs in the launch thread is always welcome. As a toast to that I think I'll move this from the wishlist to the shopping cart right away (even though I have a rather large backlog already).

Cheers :)

You did the opposite of cutting corners on the soundtrack; getting the album version of songs as well as the in game version is really wonderful. It is two hour long albums plus over an hour of the in game version and with flac available. I listened to a few of the album tracks and they are all amazing. I suspect this will be my new favorite soundtrack and the bundle price seems reasonable just for the music.

I'm not sure if this can be easily changed but it looks like a few of the filenames on album 2 (tracks 5, 10, 11, and 12) use a Windows character set rather than utf8 and this makes the file names not appear correctly on Linux. I can see the metadata fine with mpv so it is easy enough to rename the files.

I love folklore in games and music. Also, thanks for including a no blood option. There are quite a few games I might like that I avoid because they don't have that option.

I would also say thanks for showing up on GOG but I see you've been here longer than I have :). Thanks for answering questions!

Glad you liked the soundtrack. It's one of my favorite bands!

I don't know exactly how easy it is to change the file names but I'll check it out. I was honestly expecting some problems to come up on this side because of the weird characters Romanian has. Apparently the standard alphabet wasn't enough for our language :).

Good to know people appreciate the "no blood" option. We also have a "no spiders" option, for people who have arachnophobia and the likes.

Have fun and I hope you enjoy the game!

I enjoy the art. it has Galaxy achievements, and the interest of the devs in GOG is promising - makes me feel sure that the game will be updated, and questions in the game fomus will be answered. A nice GOG release.
There's a typo on the system requirement "i3-2500K".
Bloodstained enter the chat :"If you have a potato PC or above, you're ok".

Yeah, that's because, erm, you need an out of this world PC to play this game?

I'll show myself out (and see that this is sorted out on the way).

Acriz: Otherwise the art looks pretty fun and it's always nice to see something about eastern european folklore.
avatar
LittleH: I'm hoping to see more games based on Eastern European folklore too.
Not too much of an indie game, but The Incredible Adventures of van Helsing trilogy (now joined into one game as The Incredible Adventures of van Helsing - The Final Cut) takes place in a kind of parallel Transylvania/Romania, and has tons of East European elements, mostly Slavic (rusalkas, vodyanoys, vampires, vrikolaks, vilas...). It's an impossible yet cool blend of East European folklore, steampunk, tongue-in-cheek humor, pop-cultural references, and a B-movie-esque story that keeps you interested in the outcome nevertheless. Loved it.
Looks interesting and funny ^_^

Yes, I've played through the first Van Helsing. It was a great feeling, being able to recognize various creatures from the Eastern-European folklore, and seeing how different the visual design was from ours. Had the same experience with the WItcher universe.

In any case, it's a colorful, surprising, funny yet macabre, delightfully random at times folklore that deserves more love.
